what 450 for mx and xc

ok so im in a bit of a pickle....i know a mx and xc quad is way diff, but i do alot of xc and technical stuff, as well as fireroad trails, as well as alot of jumping. I want a 450 because i just like them...lol

so i got a 04 450r for 1500 with the following mods

-port polish head-bored .40 over -weisco 13-1 piston -carb has been jetted with k&n kit -nerf bars -fat foot pegs -metal heel guards -hmf exhaust -pro taper contour bars -teather kill switch -swingarm skid -full bully skid -lonestar carrier -gforce axle -key relocated -front bumper -rear grab bar -shock covers -parking brke block off -case saver-new oem clutch

im putting the motor back to stock for reliability...i bent the stock a arms so i have to upgrade those

...so since i think i got a good deal on the 450, should i keep it and upgrade the a-arms and shocks?

or what should i do???? thanks


also, my axle chrome is starting to peel...should i get it re-chromed, or powdered, or polished??

just start over and get a standard 08 YFZ. most places i have seen them for mid 5's

i wouldnt waste 5 grand, just mod the one you have now, and with 5 grand worth of mods itll be better than a stock yfz. JMO

yeah i mean i have to give 4,000 more to get yfz, and i can take 4,000 and put it in this r and the yfz will have no chance

well then yeah just do that. i just went off what your title said.

as for shocks and a-arms, Houser +.5 a lot of people like on the Honda's, and getting stock shocks rebuilt would prolly be all you would need.

as for axle, not sure.

Did you run the vin number?? Because either that guy was desperate for cash or it sounds stolen to me. $1500 is way cheap for a modded 450r.. even the 2004's...

well dmc heres how it went..lol

i bought a ktm 200exc dirtbike in peices for $1200, then got a yz250 (junk) for $300....then i put ktm together and a guy wanted to trade banshee for the two dirtbikes, so i did. then guy wanted to trade 450r to banshee..so i did

so...thats how i only have $1500 in it

yeah i thought so too

the 450 juust needed a-arms, tierods, tires, wheels, handlebars, and plastic

i figured i would be replacing those anyways so i didnt care that they were bent..lol

guess thats what happens when you roll a 450r end over end down a hill

haha i feel im going to get alot of biased opinions

people that say 450r have the 450r
people that say kfx have kfx
and people that say yfz have a yfz

but the kfx would be handy in xc because it has reverse

all i know is i dont want a ltr, or the 09 yfz....anything else is fair game....but i think i might keep the r and mod it

Id say mod the 450r or get a new YFZR. Ive ridden both equally modded and they are REALLLLY nice quads

yeah...but i kinda like the reverse on the kfx, but i will prolly mod the 450r...i mean all of the 450s are nice and i will probably be happy with any of them....there are good things about all of them

but i dont want a ltr, just because i dont and have heard bad things

and the kfx only reason i want is for reverse

and the 450r and yfz ive heard to be pretty similar in performance, with the honda being a little more reliable, and with xc thats what i need....

they all go fast and have power, so i guess i will ride the 450r for a while......
