Well we're thinking of flying out to Vegas the first week of July and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to see and what to do?

Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon for sure .... but what about other stuff? Anyone know of any good shows to see on the Strip? We're thinking of going for 4 or 5 days.

Get a rental and drive to Valley of Fire to see ancient stone glyphs and a spectacular sunset. Red Rock Canyon is nice scenery too with feral donkeys and rattlesnakes. Go up to the top of the Stratosphere and ride at the top of the tower. That is like your CN tower, but has a spectacular view of Vegas. You want to do that at night, or right before sunset. Blue Man Group is expensive but worth it. Go see Zumanity at NY NY if you like adults only circus acts. It's like Cirque du Soleil...after-hours.
There is a mini NASCAR track near the Sahara you can drive their car on. Go to Ceasar's Palace to get your picture taken with the hot models...free with your camera. Paris Las Vegas has a cool 1/2 scale Eiffel Tower.

Drinks at the casinos are comp'd as long as you are gambling, but the Freemont casinos are a little chintzy with their alcohol. Bottled beer can't be watered down like mixed drinks. Tip the waitress or bartender for the most attention. Nearly everyone expects gratuity, and it buys attention. The casinos expect you to loosen your wallet after a few drinks. Use this ONLY to YOUR advantage, not theirs.

Cab fare should be no more than $10-15 from McCarran Intl to the South end of the strip, and $20-30 from there to Freemont st. DON'T LET THE CABBIES TAKE YOU DOWN THE ENTIRE STRIP. It will cost you more time and money.

Don't stay at the Imperial Palace....or if you do, don't stay in the rooms facing the strip. Techno music BLASTS until DAWN. There is an ALL NIGHT party there every night.

Consider a helicopter ride. Some of those pilots are half-insane and will give you a good ride.

There is a free tram from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur... then a fairly inexpensive tram behind the MGM Grand that will take you to the North end of the Strip behind the Sahara. Use the tram if you don't take the rental, or are too intoxicated to drive.

If you rent a car, get the insurance. I DESTROYED a PT cruiser on I-15. I damaged my first rental driving off-road through the desert and hit some scrub brush.

It gets very HOT there in July, and it's not a "dry heat" because of Lake Mead. It's cheaper to buy a case of bottled water from the Wal-Mart on E Tropicana Ave than a single bottle from the Bellagio.

Have fun!

^^^Geez go to vegas much, jk

you must see hangover before this trip, "remember what happens in vegas stays in vegas, except for herpes that **** will follow you back."

go to to (i think it's) pole position raceway, gotta try the electric indoor go carts. rest of vegas is overrated. lots of garbage, old buildings, people begging for money, and old chinese people...

Gets pretty hot in July, prepare to live like a vampire. Biggest mistake for me was going in August- it was 114 in Vegas. If you don't mind the heat then you'll be fine.

If "STOMP" is in at Planet Hollywood Hotel you should go see that. I was there last year for work. We went and saw "STOMP" one of the cooliest things I Think I have ever seen. Really good show it last about an hour and half. Watch out for the Hispanics handing out flyers for " Hot babe's to your room in 15 minutes guaranteed " lol.. Those guys are EVERYWHERE!!!! Other than that it is a cool place.

I wanna see the lights of Vegas , but also want to see other things not just the strip. I heard the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are full day trips , right? I plan on renting a car rather than taking a tour bus.

Thanks for everyones info. Leaning towards staying at Treasure Island ... anyone ever been?

Read up now on how to prevent heat exhaustion LOL.

You mean to tell me it's gunna be hot out?? ;) Not sure my Canadian *** can handle it ... when it's 70 outside I'm sweating. Just joking .. I can handle the heat... I think.

Thanks for the info about the two trips .

Yes, Hoover Dam can really be as quick as you want it to be. It's not far from the strip, and if you just want to see it, to see it, then it takes no time at all.

The Grand Canyon tours are def all day events (or more), but you can also take an express trip over the canyon by plane or helicopter. Trust me though, those trips are not for the weak of stomach...haha. It was an absolute blast though.

I love Vegas. Def Rent a Car. If you don't mind spending a little bit of money I would recommend renting an exotic car, or a nice sports car. Most of the rental car company's have Vette's now, or other random sportier cars like Mercedes, Audi's, etc. It really makes the driving around part that much more fun. Also, the place I usually go with is RAV. Their site is http://www.rent-a-vette.com/ . They've got a lot of sweet cars to choose from, and they are really cool people too.

The strip itself has plenty to do, but I'm not really into the gambling scene. It's fun to walk through all the casinos though.

I have the most fun off the strip seeing the sites. Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Red Rocks, Mt. Charleston, etc...All kinds of awesome scenery all so close to the city (again the fun rental car adds to the experience). Being from Ontario, I think you might be the same way as I was, because its so much different than here.

One other place we went that was kind of out of the ordinary was down South of Searchlight into California (not far) through a town called Nipton. The sights on the way look like things out of the movies (again I'm from VT so you don't see that stuff every day). On your way back up on the Highway you can stop in Primm. They got a couple creepy casinos, and a few other things worth seeing.

I think it's a really cool place and I know you are going to have an awesome trip!

Edit: Not sure if this was said or not, but they also have some ATV tours, and ATV/Buggy rentals too that might be fun to check out.

Oh and Shows....SEE THE SHOWS. I was a skeptic because I'm not really into that sort of thing, but every one we saw were Amazing.

One more thing. The big name places on the strip are all pretty decent inside, and they all of course have shops and resturants and all that onsite.

If you are looking for a Nicer room, but less as far as the shops and resturants go, there is a hotel just off the strip by Bally's called The Platinum. It's gorgeous inside and all the rooms are Suites with a private balcony overlooking the strip (or mountains on the other side). It's pretty reasonable, and again every room as a full kitchen, flat screens in the living area and bedroom, and full bath with seperate jacuzzi tub for those "special evenings" with the wifey...haha.

the downside is it only has one resturant inside, and i thought it kinda sucked. but its right off the strip, and if you had a rental car it's free valet parking at all the hotels on the strip so it's easy to get anywhere you need to go. Parking is never an issue.

make sure you eat at the Rio.. im not a buffet person, but holy crap that was amazing. also, i'm like a few others.. i couldn't wait to get away from the strip. i really liked just going out to henderson, and stopping at the exotic car dealer along the way :p
