Whats the best, most convenient, thing to use, to plug the hole on the stock carb?

I'm going to be installing the sparks key, removing choke and also the airbox lid.
I'm going to order a 155 and 158 main and a 42 pilot. I shouldn't need a bigger main should I? I'm guessing a 155 will do it since I already have a slip on.

yeah i thought about RTV. What about the main jets. Should a 155 or 158 put me close?

the only bad side of the rtv silicone is that you have to drill the stuff out if you want to put the choke back in

Man the best way is to put alil rubber cap and a hoseclamp or zip-tie. I'm talking about a 300ex carb, but from expierence it makes your jetting way harder to get spot on.

As for what jets, and how to set your carb to where it needs to be. Its gonna be trial and error I bet. Go with what you think. Are you gonna mess with the pilot or the needle also when you put the mains in?If your removing the airbox lid i would.

1st gen? The 400ex has been basically the same since 1999. Same motor, frame and all. The only difference through the years is is colors/plastics and the addition of reverse in '05. But to answer the question I used a rubber cap and a zip tie to seal it off. RTV is not a good idea if there is a chance of you putting the choke back on in the future.

if only it were the same lol I love the 1st gen which is why I bought one. Ever since it came out I remember looking at the 99 model and saying wow that is awesome! One day i will have that. 6 or 7 years later I picked up a 2004 last year for that style and what not.

You can get them from any Advance Auto Parts.

Part number is 85609.
