I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't have just bought the 450. Don't get me wrong, I love my EX, but by the time I widen it a little, fix the suspension and do a few motor mods, I probably could have gotten a 450 with less invested and been very happy with it nearly bone stock.

Oh well, at least I have reverse...

Nope, I'm very happy with my EX. Handles very well, been rock solid reliable, and has plenty of power.

It get's a lot of looks and questions when I drag race at the dunes. It impresses a lot of people.

I get that feeling alot. Especially after visiting a MX track. It does good just I think it would be easier.

I love my EX, too. I guess I've just been thinking about how much money I've been dumping into it... and it's only two months old, lol.

For me the grass has always been greener on the other side of the fence, so I'm sure I would have doubts had I picked up the R, as well.

I know the EX suits my riding style better and is more reliable, just can't help but wonder "what if..."

It would be more power stock but ya get to tweak the 400 just the way you want it.

One thing my bro in law drools over my 400 (he rides a 450) is the turning radius lol we can turn way tighter than the 450's in the tight woods that helps alot.

We are quite happy and content with our 400EX , 250EX, and TRX90.
450r is a race bike, we dont race ,

and so far when I'm riding desert and trails with my buddy who has a 450r,...
he can't seem to ever lose me, and sometimes I've got the lead.

besides, I enjoy 25mph to 45mph riding just as much, (if not more) as I do going 60+ mph.

Nah,...
I don't regret getting the EX at all.

On the track, It would make jumps right outta corners alot easier. Hopefully once I get some motor work done to my 400 it'll help.

Nope i like my Ex. I basically got it on the cheap and it does good on trails. I have fast 2 stroke bikes if i wanted to race. The 400ex is very reliable and serves its purpose as a good trail bike. I coulda bought a 450r or a yammy 450 but i dont think i would enjoy it as much as i do this bike.

i have not actually ridden a 450r but i love my 400. i will never get rid of it no matter how much $$$ i have to put into it. i am going to put another set of bearings in it this week as a matter of fact. i guess if all i have to do every year is do bearings i dont care. i would not care if i had to rebuild every 2 months it looks awesome and still turns heads. the 450s are just another machine now compared to the old 400. people are amazed at how good the 400 looks when it rolls up next to any machine. steve

id like one for the extra power but the 400 is just such a tough machine. theyre hard to kill and the way i ride i would have blown the 450 years ago

I love my EX, and there is no doubt that it is a tough and fun machine. Right now the only reason I would be looking at upgrading is that, between the suspension and horsepower, I have to ride that much harder to keep up with the other riders in my group, almost all of whom have 450's or larger. But, upgrading is a two edged sword. Besides basic maintenance I have had very few issues with my 10-year-old 400EX...and who knows how hard it was run before I bought it. I doubt that sort of reliability will be the norm with most 450's, which seem to require a lot more maintenance.

For me it is a difficult choice: Spend money to try to extract more horsepower (within the limits of air cooling) and better suspension out of a 10-year-old quad, or put that money toward a new quad and newer technology...

You sir have the best sig Ever!

Back on topic, If I was going to by a brand new bike, I'd get a 450. I got a practically new 06 EX for cheap, so I'm Very happy with it.

I will say that I too am dumping a decent amount into it :)

i had a 450r...handed my 400ex over to my wife...regretted the move since day one...i always ended up on the 400ex unless my wife was riding too...she didn't ride much so i sold the 400ex thinking it would make me like the 450r more...didn't happen...now i am back on a 400ex and couldn't be happier

nope i don't want a 450---i like my 416ex it reliable and it spanks 450's--i like the sleeper mode lol- but if its gets outran -i just break out the zilla that sits beside it and let him open up---plus i don't like 4 wheelers with reverse..i like to flintstone around lol

as far as woods riding. if i was to get into xc racing all out i would run a 400ex and sell my 450r. as far as the track im satisified iwth my 450r; however, those who are talking about wideining there ex cost so much when you could be satisfied with an r. not realy. the stock front end doesnt handle crap and 400ex aftermarkets are cheaper. if i was to get a quad for the track all over again it would be an ltr.
