Are 400EX spindles a direct swap to a 88-89 TRX 250R spindle?

Would I need the adapter plates, if I run TRX250R calipers and hubs?

Thanks,
Dan

the 89 hubs are a direct fit, 88's will need a change in bearing collar. For the calipers you will need adapters. You will need to move the tie-rod ends to the bottom of steering stem and the bottom of the 400ex spindle. Also camber and caster of the spindle will need to adjusted. Its a mostly direct swap, things will have to be adjusted for the changes in the new spindles.

So, TRX 250R calipers will be a direct bolt on with no adapters?

Thanks for the response!

no you will need caliper adapters to run 250R calipers on 400ex spindles

I just did this swap about 2-3 months ago! Only difference is I used Baldwin hubs! I only had to put the outer tierod under the spindle! Never touched the one on the stem! This setup saves a lot of weight with the billet hubs! Also seems to handle better! Didnt think that was possible! I did use the PRP adaptors so I could retain the dual piston 250R calipers! They are pricey but worth it in my opinion!

Sorry to kick a dead horse...

So is it safe to say, I could directly swap over spindles and calipers from a 400EX that would go hand in hand with 89 R hubs and rotors?

Thanks,
Dan

Absolutely.

I went from Baldwin hubs on 400ex spindles/calipers right back to 89 spindles with 250R calipers. Used the same rotors.

In my case it really helped knowing the rotors were the same. I was able to pick up a set of wave rotors pretty easily since most folks sell them as 400ex, not knowing the fit 250R hubs also. You may want to check between the years though. I know 89 matches up for sure.

Perfect! Thanks everyone for the help.

Why did you switch back? :ermm:

Is there any more information worth knowing?

I wanted the best braking I could get, that meant going back to the dual piston 250r caliper. I'm not interested in running caliper adapters just to keep the 400ex spindles, so I ditched them.
