Today I raced my stock ex with my wife's dads 650 Prairie we just upgraded with a with a DG pipe,k&n,jet kit and a High Lifter module setting on 26 inch wheels, out the hole till about 45 he was maybe 3-4 bike lengths behind me but I started pulling away after that, surprised me he was right with me,could not tell how much I was spinning,I'd hate to race him with his stock wheels!!Amazing how much power the utility v-twins have, especially the Brutes

man, a few years back.. i was on a yfz and there was some big ace clunky d 4x4 out there. it was a new oversize utility, but anyways we drag raced and i was bangin fourth when his front tires finally hit the ground.. i did win but not by much, just makes you wonder how much bigger do you need a utility quad?

they cannot hang with me on the trails nor hills no matter what but I find it amazing how much straight line power they have.I'd have to do quite a few mods to run the Cat.

I like the functionality of the UTV's, as well as the sport performance of the ATV's. (with the sport side being the dominant).
I dont do any official type of racing, and I wanted a quad that could do both sides of the coin, fairly well.
Kind of a "cross-over, sport/utility".

I felt that I could accessorize a sport quad into a "sport/utility" easier and cheaper, than I could modify a utv into a "sport performance" model.
So I chose the 400ex. I have done most of the more popular performance ugrades, as well as a few utility style accessories.

It works quite well for what I wanted, and can be swapped from "Sport" to "Utility", in a matter of minutes.

I call it my TRX400 sport/utili-trax EX, Here's a pic of it in full dress. The rear rack/bags can be removed in 5 minutes.

here's a shot of it in "Sport/Trail" mode...

I'm very happy with it, and it serves both styles,(and my level), of riding, fairly well. I realize that many people here dont like it, or wouldn't do it,
but it does what I want it to do, all in one reliable quad.

Now that's different and I like it,where did you get the rear rack,is that what's called the six pack and I like the hand protectors, the way they mount into the bar ends.I ride with utility atv's all the time and could use a bit of space for a small cooler

i have never seen your machine all decked out tri. it looks awesome in my opinion. The can am 800 would give us a run to in a drag. i have never ridden a 4x4 like that before. it will wheelie all day long on blacktop. steve

Yea you would! I had a 04 F7 which is a little slower than the thundercats and I smoked my buddys z-400 with full yosh, hot cam, uni, rev box or computer, its bored with high compression but not sure of the size. We were both on grass and from the time he nodded go he was behind me. Sleds have unbelievable power if you can keep the skis on the ground.

the rack/mount was a tough one to find for the 400ex. It is actually a universal rack, with only the mount being 400ex specific.

It was made by Quadboss, as well as the mount, but they (the 400ex specific mount), ARE very hard to find, due to not many were sold for the 400ex, and to the best of my knowledge, they are no longer produced.

They do occaisionally pop up on ebay, so the best way to find one is to make it a "favorites search".
That way, when one gets posted, you recieve a email notification.

here is some pics of the rack and mount, and you could fab your own mount pretty easily. the universal rack itself, is much easier to find.

the rear cargo bag that mounts to the rack, can be found in a wide variety of styles and configurations on ebay, rocky mountain, or any utv type accessories source.

The six-pac rack shown in my "Sport" pic, can be found just about anywhere that sells atv/utv accessories, or as said before,.... ebay.

the handguards are Maier brand.

and my seat is nothing custom. it is the stock 400ex seat.

I am currently working on custom mounts for a pair of gmrs/frs 2-way radios.
They have internal helmet speakers/mic, and a PTT button on the handelbars.
The models of radio I chose, have a effective useable range of about 2 miles. (yeah, I've tested them at that range).

It'll be nice to be able to talk to the wife while trail riding, as well as a good way to keep a eye on my daughter who is just learning to ride her TRX90.

here's a nose shot, ya gotta have a sense of humor, Right ?
(It's now got bright yellow LED's glaring from the eye sockets in the skull), but not shown in this pic. LOL!
get's alot of laughs and comments.

Unfortunately, Honda doesnt really make anything worth buying in term of high performance utility quads. Sad reality. :(
