just wondering if the xr 400 head would fit on a 400 ex and if so what would i need to do it

yes an xr 400 head will fit the 400ex, to swap the head you'll need a headgasket and vavle cover gasket

Nope. The head gasket does that. I think there is a difference with the compression release mechanism, though, so it might not be a direct swap.

no it is not a big difference. if you put in a hotcam or something the decomp stuff comes out anyway so it does not matter anymore. If you get a 400ex gasket it is thicker than the xr gasket so you will not get a true 11:1 or something like that. all of the 400ex compressions are based on the xr engine. Steve
