anyone running one on thyere r?

i found out mine has one from an 85 atc, due to the sprocket bolts being 8mm instead of 10mm and they dont use nuts and they mount from the outside in instead of the inside out with a nut on the outside like most quads.

is there any advantage to the atc axle>?

no, infact, its worse to use a 85 atc axle. Your sprocket alignment is off. Do you also have a 85 swingarm? If you have a 85 swingarm, then the 85 axle is the correct axle to use. The swingarm has a smaller carrier and a linkage that connects the front of the caliper to the swingarm. Many more than thinking they do, have 86 atc swingarms and axles, nearly identical to 86/87 trx units. Those are fine to use. Its the 85 ONLY axle, swingarm and carrier that need to used together. 85's had another disadvantage, a smaller diameter bottom shock bolt that can bend, easy.

yes!!! in the other thread you had I posted a link to a picture of the 85 brake setup, trx swingarm bearing kits work in 85 and 86 atc swingarms. 85 was the odd year for parts, 1 year only swingarm, carrier, axle, suspension linkage parts and brake linkage. 86 atc/trx is nearly the same setup and interchange, don't know why the swingarms have different part numbers. 86 atc's use the same linkage parts as 86 trx's and the only thing different with 87-89 trx's is the dogbone length and bolt from linkage to swingarm on 88/89. The reason why so many 250r's have/had 85 atc250r swingarm and rear linkage parts is because when the frames were cut-up, the motor were sent back to honda and the dealers were left to do with the rest.

Many of those went to Burguard Atv, they had huge piles of half frames with the swingarms, brakes and such intact. They then sold them off as the complete unit to racers for spare parts. The swingarm setups were the only thing of any good, what happened to the rest?? who knows. I used to have a picture of a frame cut in the way honda wanted and several years ago, a link was on ebay of the complete unit, everything was there, excpet fenders.
