I recently heard a ticking noise coming from my motor. It almost sounds like its in the header. I just adjusted the valves to original specs but thats it. Anybody have any idea of what it might be?

i got the infamous "tick" too. mine was just my valves tho. peple on here told me that it could be my camshaft chain slapping

i would look at you cam tensioner. mine had no spring to it and the chain was so long taking it out was 1,2,3. i say take it out and cause mine had no sping left you could push it in with your pinky.

probably tha cam tensioner, my decompression spring fell out and the little pin was god knows where in there ticking probably on my valves so i took it out and the 400ex has enough orque in the sarter to start it without the decompression spring in there works like it was there since i took the head off. or could be a stretched cam chain i also had to replace that because it was slapping around so look at those 2 first!

Cam chain tensioner. They are notorious.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to look at my quad. So I'm going to check the cam chain/tensioner and valves. But before I do get started, tonight I noticed that the ticking noise speeds up when the RPM's go higher. I don't know if that would change anyones opinion on what the problem is.
