Sounds like you need a clutch.

Check the free play in your clutch lever. Also, if you half shift it a lot, you round off the engagement dogs and it makes it really hard to shift and it gets stuck in between gear all the time.

I love it when these people who beat the pi$$ outta their quad, and when something wears out, the quad is a peice of $hit. Don't ride it if you can't afford to fix it. It sounds like the clutch.:huh

I would look into a nice, used Yamaha Breeze. It sounds like it would suit you better.

yeh that is total junk sell it to me for $500.00 I will paypal the money to you today! you could use it as down payment on a new yamaha ! heard the breeze has no shifting problems and is easy to navigate! sounds like you need to get a service manual and 50.00 bucks in clutch parts. :devil well after reading your older threads I see you have had an on going problem for month ,you said it only slipped in 2nd , if it was fine in 1st and 3rd then you have a problem in the tranny and need to tear it down.(split the cases) If it was slipping in all gears when you punch the throttle or on a incline then the fibers are gone, and could proubly use a set of heaver clutch springs. and file the basket, A little advice ,in case you have not noticed people here are pretty fond of the 400ex and proubly are not going to be to sypathitic of people that bash them try bluetraxx, they flame each other all day long!

I just think u had the clutch miss adjusted and u blew it out. My friend did that. He also rides really hard. U shouldnt have a high performance atv if u cant do the maintence. I think the breeze will be perfect, auto tranny and 125cc's will suit u perfect.:huh

I think it's an electrical problem. It sounds like your battery needs a new quad.

You're really laying on the sarcasm here aren't you RaptorMan? :D I think if he (or anybody) got one and had to deal with a bad tranny, blown carb boots, cheesy starter clutches, bad choke mechanisms, and what ever else is next to break on 'em, he (or anybody again) would realize what an almost bullet proof quad the 400EX is.

havent had any problems mentiond above. guess i should have stated raptor except an 01! seriously the 400 is a good quad. my hommie hot-rod has one. he has run the ***** out of that thing!! he is on second rebuild but still runnin good. seriously honda needs to upgrade bad though. cant beleive they are laggind behind so bad. i was a honda man at one time and hot-rod lets me know about it every time we go ridin!! its all good!!
