Thermo Unit

I have a question about the thermo unit hopefully someone can help me. I was puting my motor back in the frame after being rebuilt and the flat metal piece on the top of the thermo unit which a wire hooks on to snapped off. I was wondering what will this do or what could result of the wire not being hooked on?

The quad still runs fine and the fan works

that controls the on/off for the fan, it is the ground side, without that connected your fan shouldnt work unless you have that wire grounded which would make the fan run anytime the engine is running

Thanks Thats what I thought it did. I just don't understand why the fan runs without it being grounded. The wire is just hanging not attached to anything.
