found a cheap 300ex with a cracked head, but is "fixed" with JB weld and it works fine now. If the problem comes back, is it hard to change the head?

No its very easy to change the heads. I pulled them so many times on my 250x.

Dont know how long that JB weld will last though.

I used it on my case and it worked ok.

but if the heads cracked, will I need to fix anything or just change the head and that it?

Ride it until it gives you problems then just put a new head on it.

its not possible to jb weld the head, they probably mean the cam cover in which case, jb weld should hold fine there and you should be able to ride it with no issues...i really cant beleive jb weld would hold inside the dome of the head or where the cam rides, i wouldnt sweat it if its just on the cam cover....hell i have a bunch of cam covers ill sell u 1 for half of new if you need it...
