my 400 is bored .20 over, brand new rings new head(valves springs ex... off ebay ) the only thing not replaced is the cam chain. my motor ticks realy bad but only at idel and low speeds i cant figure out what it is. its almost like a slaping or knocking noise. besides that thought, the bike runs great it starts great and idels fine what can it be the timming chain , or the clutch or what?

i would check your tensioner to make sure it is working right. they can get stuck in once in a while, you can take it off and check it but otherwise you sould check out your valve specs and make sure everything is in spec and tight. steve

Its not the clutch. Depending on the year or how many hours you have on it, its very possible to be the timing chain.

yea your cam chain is probably streched you might wanna get a new one better to do it now then wait for here to skip and hop off the sprocket and cost you alot more money

the only thing i can think of is the cam chain i would pull the cover and clutch off and see whats going on in there its a really quick and easy thing to do could save you alot of tijme and money...good luck dude:devil:

if you put in a new cam and a tensioner, how about new valve springs, it may be floating a bit and making them tick (i doubt it) or the chain is bad(most likely) or your chain guides are getting wore out. just my .02, steve

my guides are fine i checked lol im leaning tward the cam chain 2, but when i ride like crusing and then punch it the quad exeleratets more than it should it feels like, and the cllymer tells me than means it may be the clutch. so idk......... also, when the motor is timed and the cam sits a little sideways dose that mean the chains no good? like the lines on the cam gear arnt comleatly flush with the head you know?

you should delete the other thread. they should be close together with the lines. they should be straight across when the timing is correct. as far as mine it was at least. steve
