How many hours(or years) can I expect out of the stock bore(or an overbore)? Just curious.

mine made it about 4 years before it started to get tired. I had about 7000 miles on it i would say when i rebuilt it. steve

i've got a 2004 still running and the average riding time was 5 hours. At one time I was going at least once a week riding 5-6 hours for about a year. Then it was once a week, and then 2 or 3 times a month. So if theres 52 weeks in a year that means in 1 year i've put on about 300 hours. Compression test still says its in check last i've done it 110psi. 100psi or lower and its rebuild time. It still has more life to go out of it. Even then the rings can just be replaced and it can still keep going.

Sounds like they run quite awhile before needing a bore. This must be why most everyone skips right past 406 into the 416.

well mines an 03 that i bought used in early 08, and i ride about 2 times a week (sometimes 3) for about six hours each time so thats 12 hours a week x 45 weeks (i slow down in the winter when theres 2 ft of snow) which comes out to 540 hours and mines still going good. If you keep up on the oil and filter changes and use the right weight and treat it nice, it should run a long time.

My 99 runs strong as ever, no smoke and fires right up. Haven't done a compression test though. All stock.
