It is hard to believe that we are already 8 rounds deep in the Can Am GNCC Series! 8 rounds that has been providing some great racing for the racers and fans alike as the weather this season thus far as been a tad bit drier then the past two seasons.

I had a super busy week and wasn't as rested as I should have been to handle the race, but I am sure many of you know how that goes:p

Saturday morning would dawn foggy and overcast, setting an ominous tone for the days action. I decided since I wouldn't be on hand for the next round, that I would spend the morning catching up with some folks as it would be my last chance to see many of them until after the summer break.

Rick Cecco was getting geared up and ready to give it a go as he battles for the U2 class championship.

GNCC Photographer Matt Ware was looking like he needed a few more hours sleep and a few more cups of coffee:p

Warnert Racings Chris Bithell helps the real muscle in his crew push out a 450R that they are selling.

Chris, it's a Honda...no need to push:blah:

Now there is usually a fair amount of playful smack talk in the pits, and Johnny G was in rare form! The veteran XC1 class racer informed me that he is the fastest and best tire groover period!

I smell a tire grooving competition....he pretty much stated that everyone else sucks:devil:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 10:55 AM
I think GT Thunders Laz Sommers got a chuckle out of Johnny G's rant:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:00 AM
Trent Kandel would be entered in the race as he gives XC racing a go. Kandel can usually be found flying high over jumps as he competes against the nations finest in the MX series.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:03 AM
Now while Johnny G was busily pronouncing his claim to fame with a tire groover, the opposite side of the coin was none other then Traci Cecco. Cecco shook her head at the demonstration of male libido as she worked on doing her thing.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:07 AM
Now racing brings with it competition ofcourse....and i've pretty much been witness to some things that I didn't even raise my camera for:p

The "who can take a leak faster race"

The "who can finish up dinner, or drink more beer" races"

Heck, i've seen some of the best racing on the road leading to the race:p

The Can Am mechanics are no different, and even race to see who can tape up the quads fastest;)

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:15 AM
Speaking of Can Am .....it was awesome to see Byran Buckhannon at the track, gimpy leg and all! Bryan was in good spirits and was looking forward to watching the days event unfold with the rest of us. Bryan snapped his leg right above the ankle at the last round and looks to make a return to racing hopefully at Unadilla.

The sun started to make itself known and quickly the foggy morning was shaping up to be a beautiful day

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:19 AM
A trip through the KTM pit found a smiling Angel Atwell as she was just about ready to go get geared up. Atwell is locked in battle with Traci Cecco as the pair does thier best to out duel each other at every round.

Pappy

McGill after finding out someone stole all the marshmellows out of the box of Lucky Charms:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:21 AM
I'm pretty sure that look of innocence tells us all who the guilty party was:devil: ;)

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:24 AM
XC1 Pro Jeff Pickens doesn't need no Lucky Charms, he feasts on zip ties:macho :D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:26 AM
The dog fights are always fun to watch:eek:

LOL...Pickens dog loves to play....but at first glance you would think it's a killer:p Poor Chad Duvall's lab was not ready for this much excitement this early in the day:blah:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 11:27 AM
"I just wanted a bone":p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 12:44 PM
Now for those of you who don't know, the race is named after John Penton. Penton was the man responsible for bringing KTM to the United States, and for making many changes to the models. A few even carried his moniker!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 12:46 PM
Things sure have changed since these machines were on the edge of cutting techonolgy. Vintage bikes are a work of beauty and functionality of the times.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 12:48 PM
I ran into Toby and his wife, who both run MotoXperts. That name is growing by leaps and bounds in the GNCC racing scene and in many other series as well as thier work is gaining alot of attention .

Pappy
06-08-2009, 12:49 PM
Mud Duck fabrication is a special skill.

I couldn't help but think of Bill Murray and CaddyShack:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 12:51 PM
G Force Racing has been a loyal sponsor here at ATVriders.com for some time now, and have now branched out to having rider support staff at not only rounds of the GNCC's, but in many of the larger series across the country.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 01:56 PM
Ahhhh, the smell of fresh molded rubber in the morning:o

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:12 PM
I had done what I could in the pits and still wasn't feeling great. I knew I did not have the energy to tackle youth race and i would like to apologise to them. I have been sick for over a week and even though I was feeling better, I was still pretty run down. And ofcourse, the chimichanga's in the hotel parking lot didn't simmer down until 4am when I final got to sleep.

Two major graduations and the race hit Athens Ohio this weekend. I should have gave in and sat out and drank beer with them all night, couldn't have hurt me none:p

The podium featured Ryan Early, Levi Coen and Doug Howarth.

Howarth took the overall win with Coen and Early finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:14 PM
Howarth was going to make sure EVERYONE got a little of the bubbly:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:15 PM
LOL...I think she wasn't prepared to get hosed down Doug:devil:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:20 PM
I wanted a new look for the starts so me and the kid scouted a few spots. Before I knew it the 10 seconds call was echoing across the field and U2 was cut loose!

Rick Cecco was hard on the throttle as he secured the holshot!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:24 PM
Traci Cecco fired through next as the Womens class took to the track.

(U2 guys, I have more shots of you but not really sure where they are:huh )

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:26 PM
Kristen Atwell, Jessi Stracham and Jennifer"Somebodys watching me" Albright all set up to tame turn two!

Jennifer, tell Geico that song from the commercial won't leave my head:mad: :blah:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:28 PM
Angel Atwell was off to a bad start and she wasn't getting any love shown to her in turn two!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:30 PM
They turned the old guys loose next:eek:

I'm sorry, Super Senior:p

I figured it out.....them guys could be a row ahead or a few rows back, but what better for the heart then to have to follow and pass all them good lookin' riders in the womens class! You sly dawgs!

Pritchard leads the charge as he grabs himself another holeshot, and would reach the ladies before they got too covered in mud....now thats smart thinkin' and a huge incentive:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:32 PM
Turn two would see a slight pile up as Pritchard streaked away!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:33 PM
Scott Kilby rocketed out front as he grabs the holeshot in 4x4 Open

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:37 PM
Now if things weren't crappy enough for me, it took until the 4th class came screaming around the first turn to realize I hadn't turned on my auto focus:o

I can hear those in the Senior class mumbling about age and it goes away first.......memory folks, lets keep it clean:devil:

Micheal Swift charges bar to bar for the holeshot in 4x4 Limited

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:41 PM
4x4 Lites Cliffton Beasley was ready for another win after suffering a dismal 2nd at Somerset:eek: Yes dismal, the man doesn't like anything but top billing:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:42 PM
I don't know about you, but I can't check out new models of quads when I am racing:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:45 PM
Jonathan Shaff battles hard for the holeshot in Sportsman A/B

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:46 PM
Now who might this be:devil:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:47 PM
The 2 strokes still live! It's great to see a few more of them every round

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:54 PM
Jerry Welch has taken the move form the mini quad to the big quad very well!

Welch grabbed the holeshot again at this round in Sport 15+

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:55 PM
My momma taught me not to run in traffic:eek:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 02:58 PM
I am pretty sure this is James Ruscoe , out front in 30+

Pappy
06-08-2009, 03:00 PM
Casey McKibbon grabs the holeshot in 16-19C

Pappy
06-08-2009, 03:02 PM
BJ Naugle (Blue/Red Raptor) gets squeezed inside.

BJ wouldnt have a good day:ermm:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 03:03 PM
Although I cant ID every class from the side I shot from, there was some great battles as they came through turns 2 and 3.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 03:05 PM
Heather Bash rips out front as she takes the holeshot in Womens Novice.

I would personally like to thank her for stepping in to sing the National Anthem in a pinch for the afternoon race. You did damn good!!!! One of the best renditions i've ever heard!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 03:08 PM
Schoolboy would be the last row off the line and it would see Josh Merrit taking the holeshot!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:45 PM
The trek back to the MX section or beyond would be a long one:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:47 PM
After harrassing me in the porta-jon, Dave motored his way back to his set up. Pay back is a ***** my brotha:devil:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:48 PM
I was able to cut the leaders off as they headed into complete the first lap. Rick Cecco was running second in U2

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:49 PM
Traci wasn't far off Rick as she prepared to hit the MX track

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:50 PM
Angel hadn't gotten a good start, but had already moved into 2nd place behind Traci. I already started thinking about the battle that surely would develope!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:54 PM
Glen Pritchard had overtaken Atwell on the MX track and was looking for more!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:55 PM
Mike Benson was running 3rd in U2 at this point and had Jennifer Albright just ahead of him

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:56 PM
Swift was in charge of his class as he exits the MX track

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:57 PM
Frank Batista wasn't trailing Swift by much as he too exits the MX portion of the course

Pappy
06-08-2009, 04:59 PM
In the woods, the racers would find things better then last year, but the hills were still plenty slick!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:00 PM
Ryan Earley hangs out and catches some racing action in the shade

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:02 PM
A good run at most of the hillls seemed to do the trick for most

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:05 PM
It was a quick thumbs up, but I got most of it:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:06 PM
BJ Naugle was off to agood run, but a broken masterlink would send him to the showers:(

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:07 PM
A good hit from behind will send anyone flying:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:08 PM
There isn't any time to exchange insurance info, your on your own chief:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:09 PM
Ryan Earley heads in to lend a hand

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:09 PM
I saw this coming...

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:10 PM
Move UTE MOVE!:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:11 PM
Merritt had dropped back from where he started, but was running smooth and mid pack! There was still a ton of racing left to do!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:14 PM
Cheyanne Shadron would face a tough race as well. She would end up finishing 19th, and I know she wanted much better. The ride home with her little brother Jay, who didnt have a good day either, would probably not be the most festive of journeys:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:18 PM
Traci had overtaken the lead and now had to put down some time. She knew Atwell was back tehre somewhere and it would only be a matter of time before the two racers met once again

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:20 PM
Robert Smith was charging hard, and was now 2nd in U2

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:20 PM
Angel was indeed on the move, and she almost got by me as she took a line that had opened up from the earlier bottleneck

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:21 PM
Lexie Coulter was really putting the hammer down as she cleared lappers

Pappy
06-08-2009, 05:22 PM
Benson was on the gas as well, but not at the speed I usually see him running

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:06 PM
Swift hamming it up for the camera:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:09 PM
Now you can't be hard on the gas when your pointing at me:p ;)

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:10 PM
The view from the top was great as always, but they had reroted it so my intended location was a no go:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:11 PM
The action in any open area can get busy fast as riders look to grab another spot before hitting on line woods track again

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:14 PM
With my target spot ditched, I peaked over a hill as the racers zipped past below me. It was kind of thick, with only a small window to grab a shot. Usually when I dont get the right vibe from a spot i move on and I have to stop that:p With a few adjustments, this would have been a cool angle

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:18 PM
While I was poking around for something different, Cody headed for even higher ground to grab some pics

Jonathan Shaff on his way to the Sportsman class victory!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:19 PM
Frank Batista grabs for his roll off string in a straight.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 07:24 PM
Cody did pass his photography course with a 100% so I expect him to start giving me some competition:p

Here he captures the Yamaha crew awaiting the arrival of Traci

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:23 PM
So with my son bogarting one of my cameras (you can see the thief in the background), I was stick with a wide angle meaning I would have to get close:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:25 PM
I think he was eyeing up the shade in the can am pit:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:26 PM
I know he would much rather be out there racing with you all, and after the summer break he will be back in action!

He caught Traci as she headed back out still holding the lead!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:28 PM
I was a wee bit closer to her then he was:devil:

Now what Cecco didnt know was that her main competition was done. Atwell had sent her KTM to the pits with something grenaded.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:30 PM
Rick Cecco had one heck of a race going. He would pull out of the pit as Cody catches him manhandling his Renegade

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:32 PM
Unfortunatley, Rick would wreck HARD right after this shot was taken. he came up short and clipped the double sending him flying through the air and slamming him to the ground!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:34 PM
Ricks wreck would be a huge oppertunity for Dudding and Benson who were running 2nd and 3rd at the time in U2.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:38 PM
Cecco picked himself up and righted his machine and would go on to finish the race...a bit battered and bruised but he is a gladiator, he can take it!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:39 PM
Sam Williams had taken the U2 win at the Titan, and was now poised to have a great finish here at the Penton

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:41 PM
With Angel sidelined, Lexie Coulter was set to have a great finish if she could keep on the gas. She had worked her way to the front and now had 2 more laps to get things done!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:44 PM
The MX section was taking its toll on the riders as many wrecked for various reasons. Catching a bad bounce, hooking up instead of sliding...heck, being muddy and trying to hang on all added up to a few injuries. I did not get any reports of any severe wrecks by the time I left the track, but i do know a spectator suffered a broken leg. Be safe out there, these guys aren't going slow and will run you clean over before you have a chance to say anything about it:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:46 PM
Cody shook his head after taking this pic of Swift. later I asked him what that was about and he said he just couldnt imagine riding such a large machine as fast as they do...and I agreed 100% with him:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:48 PM
Kyle Riley clears the first set of doubles as he hammers on. Riley ran into some issues when he hit some water in one of the bottoms and it forced him to the pits for some immediate wrench work.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:50 PM
I asked Cody what he was after in this shot..me working or the rider.

He replied..."Well, the guy looked tired and figured if he ran you over you'd want a pic of it"

I get no respect:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:52 PM
Batista was running great, and from what I could see, it looked like the Can Am crew helped him out with some fuel.

Thats great sportsman ship!!!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:54 PM
Cody Anderson was chugging along as well. I was hoping he could have a good run here at the Penton

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:56 PM
Same rider different angle:p

If you can't tell, me and my kid have a ton of fun doing this even if it is work:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 08:58 PM
A few riders got a little throttle happy and would hook up when they didnt want to. Good picture to promote beadlocks:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:02 PM
The action is always good when you get more then 1 or 2 riders going at it!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:03 PM
I knew it wouldnt be long before Cody made his way back to me...after all, I had the waters:devil:

I wasted no time in snatching my camera from him and handed him the wide angle so he could suck dust for awhile:o

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:05 PM
Garon Davis was ripping out there, and it kept him up front to take the Sport 15+ class win!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:07 PM
I knew the angle was killer, but needed to move to catch the leaders....but not before catching Jamie Bougher getting ready to head into the jump section:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:10 PM
We didnt have to wait too long before Traci cecco was making her way towards us.

Cody had the shot...and I told him he better make it count because the leader shots are important. I think he did pretty ok:cool:

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:12 PM
Cody gave out a big hell yeah after taking this shot..he said thats the way to get it done!

More shooting, less cheering boy:devil: I do agree that you could pick out those with some MX expeirence pretty easily

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:15 PM
Glen Pritchard was running like the Energizer Bunny on overdrive, but would break a spindle!

We need to put a warning light on glen's bars that tells him when he can slack...just a little:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:17 PM
Rick Cecco came back as he scored another lap. I was glad to see he was still racing as I knew he wasn;t hurt to bad from his crash

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:20 PM
Jeremi Dudding catches some air as he races after the leader

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:22 PM
Oh my...

Here is my shot

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:23 PM
And here is Codys shot of Rick....

I think he has my timing:o

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:27 PM
Riley had suffered a bad start and time in the pits but was back out swinging as he chopped his way through teh Schoolboy class. Riley would end up 7th after a valiant effort.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:30 PM
Frank Batista bury's his head in frustration as his Sportsman developed a big problem...it wouldnt pull much past idle from what I could hear.

I'm not sure what cleared it up or what he was able to fix but he must have gotton it squared away as he finished 2nd in 4x4 Open!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:32 PM
Scott Kilby would run true as he raced his way to 1st in 4x4 Open

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:33 PM
Daryl Rath was running strong however he to would face some problems and finish in the 8th spot

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:35 PM
Traci Cecco would rip her way into scoring without a competitor in sight.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:37 PM
Cecco would claim her 3rd win of the season as takes teh checkered flag.

The points battle stays razor close as we once again have another epic battle for the championship!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:40 PM
Micheal Swift grabs a bit of air as he rips in to claim the 4x4 Limited win! This win marks 8 in a row!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:42 PM
Jonathan Shaff would claim the actual overall win by time, but since the Sportsman class isnt a points paying class, he wouldn't be allowed on the podium.

Excellent riding nonetheless!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:46 PM
Swift was needing some hydration and a few seconds to razz Brent Sturdivant before heading to the podium. He didn't think he had secured a spot on the box even after we told him:p

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:47 PM
Sam Williams put in a heck of a ride and claimed his prize!

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:50 PM
Micheal Swift makes it two Can Am's on the podium with his 2nd place finish.

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:51 PM
It would be once again the smiling face of Traci Cecco claiming the win. The class win and some spending money for the holeshot, it was a good day:D

Pappy
06-08-2009, 09:53 PM
The morning podium was official, now it was time to turn our attention to the afternoon race and the XC1 class in particuliar!

Congrats guys and gal, thats was some great racing!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:29 AM
The heat was deffinatley making us all sweat. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and that sun was beating on everyone.

Duane Johnson wipes some sweat from his eye as the XC1 class was now assembled and we were almost ready to roll

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:33 AM
Chris Borich is finally in a position to claim his first championship. It has been years in the making as the young rider has paid his dues and now stands atop the point standings.

There is still alot of racing left and nothing is ever garunteed, but I suspect that unless something happens to him, he will be the one to beat as we head into the second half of the season. The mistakes made in the past are now tucked away expierences for him to draw from and combined with a solid team, he is poised to accomplish his long term goal.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:40 AM
A few last minute tweaks to Chris Bithells Can Am DS450 prior to the start. Bithell's season has been plaqued with issues, but you'd never know it as Chris puts on his best face when discussing issues and defeats that has him sitting just outside the top 10 in points.

Can Am not only has two ultra talented racers in their stable with Bithell and Sturdivant, they have to riders that meet issues head on and are doing an excellent job when it comes to dealing with adversity. Both are winners and want nothing more to be on that podium every week and sometimes the character they display means more to many then the finishing order at days end.

Most riders are so full of nerves and excitement on the line that a yawn would the last thing you would expect to see. The top riders in our sport are at home on the line and take it all in stride.

I spoke with Taylor Kiser before the race and he stated he had been spending a ton of time riding since the last round. He also stated that his attention had been focused on his suspension and that he felt really good about the set up and was eager to get out on the track and battle. Riding on his dime as a privateer and turning his own wrenches is giving him a new outlook on things and I would say that when he is offered a shot at another Factory ride, he will be taking this season in consideration and everything he has been througha nd learned will follow him until the day he hangs up his helmet. Sometimes a champion is formed before your very eyes and you never notice it.....I think Kiser will have his day and be at the forefront of GNCC racing for many years to come and no matter his results, has earned the respect of alot of people.

The fans and spectators were all clammering for a front row seat for the starts. I always encourage everyone in the AMA MX coverage to bring along a friend to let them see first hand just how fast these guys are. Getting the spectator numbers up will help everyone and allow our sport to grow a little each round.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:54 AM
I wanted to do pretty much the same thing:p

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:56 AM
The last few seconds ticked away as the afternoon race was about to get fiored to life!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 09:58 AM
Xc1 was off the line and now working turn one. Taylor Kiser would grab the early lead as he exits the turn. Chirs Borich didn't get a great start and was having to avoid a downed rider!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:01 AM
Jeff Pickens and Ryan Lane go wide as turn two was now ready to see action

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:02 AM
Kiser may look like he is out for a casual stroll, but let me tell you, he was flyin!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:03 AM
Kiser would claim the official holeshot as he hits turn 2 with Brian Cook and McGill in pursuit!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:04 AM
Turn 3 was tight and it would be followed by a short run to turn 4 allowing not much room for manuvering.

Ballance would find himself mid pack

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:05 AM
I knew that atleast one rider had crashed at turn 1 but things happen so fast that I couldn't ID them. Derisi came railing through but I believe he just didnt fire and was now playing catch up

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:06 AM
Trent Kandel was now moving as well as all but one racer remained in turn 1

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:08 AM
When I finally got a chance to turn and see who was still getting going after the crash, I could clearly see it was Brandon Sommers. Brandon would now be forced to run down the class and work through them if he had any hope of getting up front where he wanted to be.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:10 AM
Kevin Yoho would be getting things done on a Yamaha, and started out with a bang by challanging for the holeshot right from the start!

XC2 was now in motion

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:11 AM
Yoho was not going to be handed anything and Eric Hoyland powers his Honda out of the first turn and a drag race was on!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:12 AM
I would have to give the edge to Hoyland as he won the battle to the line and claimed the holeshot!

Unfortunatley for Hoyland, an issue with his kill switch would cost him this day....

"Going into Millfield, I was not expecting the track that was delt to us which was tight and technical but it was still a good time like always. Drop of the flag I got the hole shot and shortly after Kirkland passed me for the lead. A couple miles into the track my teather cord came unhooked costing me some time. For some reason it came unhooked two times after that. So after all of that I came in for the first lap in Fifth place. I pretty much fell in that pace all day. The teather cord problem will be adressed, and I am looking forward to the big race in my home state and also looking for my first win.

Big thanks to the new DC cycle motor for grabbing me my first hole shot of the season, as well as my other sponsors, Rekluse,Hiper,Hmf,Maxxis,Fasst,Oneal,Four,Quadtech ,Asv,ArsFx,Exit,Rem,RG Honda,My mom and dad."

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:15 AM
Matthew Copley would find himself under his ride but was quickly helped out of his situation.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:17 AM
Gabe Phillips was a bit late getting going as well, but was soon hard on the throttle and chasing down the class

Gabe suffered a dislocated hip at Somerset and was looking for an injury free race.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:20 AM
Junior A racer Bobby Cornwell would rip out of the first turn as he leads the class out

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:22 AM
Gabe Baltazar gets the jump in Vet 30+

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:24 AM
Glenn McConnell gets out of shape as he stays on the throttle in Senior A

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:27 AM
Setting her back down of 4 wheels and now looking at turn two, but the slight bobble was all that was needed for another wary eye'd class participant to see

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:27 AM
Dave Simmons went just outside the first turn and was now at full speed heading into the 2nd turn

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:28 AM
Simmons was now bar to bar and challenging for the holeshot

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:30 AM
Simmons would out manuver McConnell in the turn and was now the leader as he crossed the line to claim the holeshoit!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:34 AM
#400 , Terry Cunningham, was entered in his first ATV race ever. Cunningham is no stranger to GNCC racing, but is more in tune with 2 less wheels.

Cunningham has a list of accomplishments on the bike, claiming many gold medals in the ISDE and is a 4 time Enduro Champion.

My money was still on Simmons:D

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:36 AM
We all know how grabby quads can be...but the cringing lady cracks me up:p

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:38 AM
Walker Fowler scolds the class as he rips to the lead in College A!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:40 AM
Fowlers jump from Schoolboy to College A has been an awesome sight. This kid will be battling for the overall wins next season.....

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:44 AM
Junior B would fire off next and Jeremy Stair would get slammed as he crashes in turn 1

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:45 AM
Kevin Gill would streak away from the maylay and grab the lead and the holeshot!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:46 AM
Stair was back up and running and would have a tough day battling his day through the class. His efforts would be rewarded with a well deserved 4th!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:47 AM
Vet B 30+ gets the jump as they head to the 1st turn

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:48 AM
Tommy Jenks takes a look around as he grabs the holeshot. Unfortunatley, Jenks would suffer a DNF this round

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:50 AM
Senior B would be ready to roll as they exit turn 1

Pappy
06-09-2009, 10:53 AM
Justin Kirchhoff scoots out front of College B

That beer sure looked good:(

Pappy

We took up spot to catch the leaders along the woods. You could hear the top classes digging in as they worked their way around the pit areas but we had no idea who was in the lead.

As the sounds grew closer, the sound blended into one and you could feel the soft ground start to shake as the top riders were now closing in on us.

Adam McGill had over taken Kiser for the lead

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:35 PM
McGill is a fan favorite and garners alot of cheers as he passes by!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:36 PM
Brian Cook was in 2nd and was looking good as he rolled on past me!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:37 PM
They hadn't even completed a lap and kiser was looking like he had been in a war!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:38 PM
Borich was running just behind Bithell and had already started climbing his way towards the front

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:39 PM
Brent Sturdivant was in the mix as well as the MX section would soon be encountered

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:41 PM
Bill Ballance was already without goggles as he battled his way in amongst a mix of XC1 and XC2 riders

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:42 PM
Brian Wolf had the lead in XC2, with Josh Kirkland pulling up in 2nd. Eric Hoyland held steady in 3rd

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:45 PM
The Penton is one of the oldest stops of the series, and the terrain is all so familiar to many. There were some changes to the layout this season that was met with mixed reviews. Many felt it was just the right mix of terrain to really make things interesting, while others complained that the bad areas offered no chance for getting around the many bottlenecks that formed throughout both morning and afternoon races.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:46 PM
Off cambers were not really an issue in many spots, but others remained slick and made everyone keep on guard

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:47 PM
Santo Derisi's Honda digs in as he hammers the throttle doing all he can to make a run towards the leaders

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:50 PM
Dave Burton gets on the gas as he runs the ridge. Burton wouldn't have a good day as he was only able to put 3 laps in:(

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:51 PM
McGill hits the MX section still holding the lead, and Borich had moved into the second spot. Cook, Bithell and Kiser round out the top 5 who were all within mere quad lengths of each other!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:53 PM
Cook had no moved into 2nd, with borich still on his grab bar. I couldn't see Pro row from my location , I can only assume Borich made a quick stop for goggles

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:55 PM
The riders were out of my sight for just a small section, but when they appeared in front of me, Borich had moved past Cook as the top 3 now raced off for another lap

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:56 PM
In a shower of roost, Kiser put his Yamaha in teh wind as Bithell gives chase!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:57 PM
Pickens and Johnson came through next, and Sturdivant and McClure were hooked up and moving out!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 12:59 PM
Sommers had recovered from the wreck at the start and was moving up fast! Ballance had cleared the XC2 riders and was now back in the mix

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:01 PM
Xc2 had Brian Wolf still leading, followed by a hard charging Josh Kirkland. Eric Hoyland and Kevin Yoho were battling for the 3rd spot as they ripped away from my position

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:02 PM
Parker Jones was putting in a good ride, but would have some ground to close if he wanted a chance at the class leaders

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:03 PM
It seemed the top 3 were really tearing up the course as we barely made it down to the mx track before they re-appeared

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:05 PM
I knew Borich would make a move on the MX track if he couldnt find a place in the woods. He wasn't going to make any stupid moves, but he sure was letting McGill know he was there

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:41 PM
McGill, Borich and kiser now broke out as the top 3 headed my way

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:41 PM
They would race out of sight in the same running order

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:44 PM
Jeff Pickens came ripping through and was in the 5th spot! I was stoked to see him having a great run!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:46 PM
Ballance was now up to 6th but didn't seem like he was riding like races past. Not sure if equipment issues were part of the problem or just an off day

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:49 PM
Duane Johnson was once again putting in a solid race, shown here running 7th

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:50 PM
Brandon Sommers was really pushing his Yamaha as he continued to make up ground.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:51 PM
Just behind Sommers was Don Ockerman. I watched ockerman flat pound the course in the woods a lap earlier and knew he wanted to move up in a bad way!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:53 PM
McClure isn't known for a big mx'r, but he was doing what he had to do on the track.

Jarrod would once again be leaving immediatley following the race to head out west to compete in the WORCS series, where he finished 3rd on sunday!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:54 PM
I think Johnny G was wanting a bit more mud

Pappy
06-09-2009, 01:59 PM
Walker Fowler headed in for another lap as he cruised to another College A win!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:01 PM
Mark Knottman and Craig Bowman battle for position in XC2

Knottman would find problems and only complete 3 laps, Bowman would motor on and find the 12th spot when the checkers flew

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:04 PM
Dave Simmons gives his YFZ suspension a little stretch as he heads in for another lap complete. Simmons would ride to his 7th straight class win of the season!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:05 PM
Jamie Bithell is one hell of a good rider, and had worked his way from an almost last place start to 2nd behind Fowler in College A , where he would finish out the race.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:10 PM
Senior B racer Shawn Javen puts the whammy on the class for the 8th straight time this season as he rides to the class win!

His partner in crime, his son Cody, would have issues this round and only complete 1 lap

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:11 PM
The last few turns before scoring wouldnt allow anyone a break as it bounced and beat you non-stop

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:13 PM
Wes Stone would put the old school R in action and rode to a 9th place finish in Junior A!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:14 PM
Dave Bishop would pilot his KTM to a 3rd place finish in Senior A.

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:16 PM
Now that shirt describes Mr. badness himself, Charlie "Wildman" Welch to a T!

Charlie smoked the field in 70 CVT to take his 6th class win of teh season!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:20 PM
Borich works past one more lapper before putting a fork in this one!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:21 PM
Kiser would follow Borich in for 2nd and Chris Bithell would find the podium here at the Penton as he claimed the 3rd spot!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:24 PM
Now I can't her squat over the PA system at most races, and being here with the MX section I might as well been totally deaf:p

Later I learned the McGill had broken a front end component and had to limp his machine back to the pits for a repair. thats a tough break for him and will deffinatley play into the points chase.

No breakage, solid racing and victory for Chris Borich!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:29 PM
Bithell was happy to have once again found the podium. I know i say it after every round, but lets hope this is one more step in keeping his ride together so he can get up there more often!

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:32 PM
Kisers finish keeps in the hunt...but no matter what the year end outcome, I think he has some big eyes taking a look at him;)

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:34 PM
The bubbly was pretty cold...and from what I could taste wasn't too bad:p

Pappy
06-09-2009, 02:37 PM
The Xc2 podium would feature 2 new faces.

Brian Wolf claimed the win, and would be heading away from the race to enjoy what was left of his sisters wedding!

Kevin Yoho found some success aboard the Yamaha as he secured the 2nd spot, and Dustin Canipe gives teh Kawi crowd something to cheer about as he finished out the podium with his 3rd place finish.

Thats wraps it up folks. I wish everyone a safe and successful race at Snowshoe!

Thanks. He was pretty satisfied but we will go through them and see what he could do better:p He is looking forward to shooting at Unadilla this weekend.

Now to get the race promoters to realize he isnt just a kid on the track with a camera:p

As far as everyone who was wondering when Cody would be back in action....probably after the summer break. He has been cut loose to do what ever he wants so now rebuilding him begins:p
