I just installed mine yesterday. I'm wondering if there should be some type of cage inside it to keep it from collapsing. It's just hollow foam.

i think there should be cause i believe that it is just like a uni but with a different name on it. I am not 100% sure though, steve

I had one on my 450R and it didn't have a cage either. I used it without and it was fine. If I were you the next time buy a UNI and you will get a cage and its much more open than the stock one and they are probably cheaper than the Sparks

So, should I use the stock cage or just run it without one?

If you didn't get a billet ring to slip in the airbox you will have to use the stock one cause you could or will crush the plastic airbox flange.

If you want more air flow you will have to trim out the screen in the stock cage

I did get the billet ring. Installation went smooth, just thought it was a little strange that there was nothing inside the filter to offer support.

From what I can tell by Sparks website, there isn't supposed to be a cage, I guess...

Thats wierd but that is prob how there getting more filtered air through as anything inside the foam will restrict flow at some point or another.

FYI...

For what its worth I emailed Sparks not expecting a response until Monday, but to my surprise they answered right back. They said the filter is designed to be ran without a cage and it will not suck in or collapse.
