I bought a crf 450 cam chain for my 400ex but it doesnt seem to fit i guess, its at the local shop, they called today and said it doesn't ride on the cam sprocket right. Something about the pins being to thick. Do they usually go right on?

It should fit fine, maybe the sprocket s wore alittle but everything should work.

it was an 02 chain. He said the pins were to thick, what ever that ment. all that money and the stock one is staying in there i guess. He says the stock one is tight though. The bike ticks like a mofo, but he says the chain is not doing it because its with in spec of a new one.

generally the tick is from a worn chain or worn tensioner so if its not the chain causing it its probably the tensioner

It'll fit...just very snug, I had to take off the lower gear to get the chain over my cam gear then install gear at the bottom. Took a little bit but works great. I had no problem with the width It runs on the gear fine.....the problem is the width does not give you the "slop" you had with the stock one for installation ease. The chain will get caught in the sides of the cylinder/cam gear while trying to install and not give you room to get it over the cam gear.

Mine ticked really bad due to worn rockers, I am also using a crf 450 chain with no problems. Check your rockers and make sure they are smooth.
