View Full Version : Stage 2 Hot Cam

Hey all, I just got done puttung in a stage 2 hot cam in my 400ex, set valve lash to specs and all, it all sounds good runs good, but it was heating up real bad and I melted my clutch it wont move now. anybody have any pointers to keep an eye out for? to make it is all well. oh and i was blowing blue smoke and sometimes it would cut out when i reved it up.. help please.. thanks all:(

did u rejet it after u installed it because you r suppose to thats probably why it was running so hot and blue smoke came out:(

no, i haven't gotten to that, i have the dyno jet kit but haven't installed it, wanted to research more on how to do it

just take it to ur local honda shop and they will probably jet it for u if u dont know what ur doing

if u just installed it, did you really already go full throttle on it? the cam has a coating on it, and you need to let that break in, your valves are gonna be super loud until it breaks in, and did u change the oil right after wards? also after the cam is broken in, i would say 1 or 2 days of riding, readjust the valves and they will be quiet again. but i dont see a reason why its running really hot unless u made the valves too tight. if u made the valves too tight, for instance the exhaust valves would be running alot hotter, and if they are running hotter you can damage valve guide and valve stem seal, so depending on how long you ran it like this your vlave seal may be damaged which could be the cause of the blue smoke.

i ran it for about 20 minutes so i dont think it should have damaged anything. i set the to .005 and .006 with a little play in them...

i wouldnt ride it anymore till you jet it
