I think it would be awesome owning a classic personally. I like having a kick starter more so then electric start too.

A 2 stroke can be a pain in the a** to get jetted.

i would keep the 400ex, i would not go back to a 20 year older bike even tho it really is that good

i would keep the 400- they are reliable atvs- just save up and get a 250r and have both-

2 stroke jetting is case sensitive. They can act up with slight temp differences and humidity levels. They might be fine in stock form but when you are trying to get all you can out of a quad (like we all do) be prepared to be replacing the top end a couple of times from leaning it out. The 400ex is pretty darn reliable.

One thing to remember since it is a older bike parts are getting harder and harder to find but they are a sweet right.

To me, the R is an awesome machine and I'd give almost anything to have one. Notice I said ALMOST anything... this does not include my 400EX.

In my mind the EX is the jack of all trades, the perfect do anything quad. The R is much more specialized and while it is great in some areas, it lacks in others.

If I could afford more than one machine, an R would be in my stable, but I work for a living and my EX will do anything I ask of it, all on it's own.
