I've been searching for a cam install how to for my 400ex and don't see one.

I'm thinking about installing a hotcams stage 1 camshaft, and got a quote of $375 + tax and parts from my local shop.

I'll do it myself, granted I can find a good how to.

Thanks!!

lol!!!!

check these ebay prices (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=400ex+cam&_sacat=See-All-Categories)

as for the install, it is super easy; take the valve cover off, remove the caps holding the cam in, swap cams, and reverse-install; it's really that easy. just make sure to make a reference on the old cam position for when you install the new one so it's timed correctly.

Buy a Clymer manual, or if you search on here you may find the link for the online PDF file for the Honda service manual.

here you go dude http://www.lspsonline.com/howto/400ex%20hotcam/index.htm

just take your time and do it slow and you wont mess up. and be very carefull when removing the cam cover 8mm bolts, they can sometimes snap off in the block

i had the sparks key b4 i did my cam, i removed the spark plug and used a screw driver to determine the highest point of the piston. but make sure the timing mark is near, because with the key installed its only a little off

Thanks for al the useful info guys, I was planning on installing the sparks key at the same time. Sounds like it would be best to do the cam swap first, then the key.

THanks everyone. Also, to the on that laughed about the price, that was just to install the cam. It was $189 for the piece itself, plus $375 for the labor. Crazy

^I'm glad I searched this, so it's more idea to do the cam install before the sparks key? I have a STAGE 1 HOT CAM I'm going to be install on my stock motor, and have a sparks key as well.
