anyone ever convert a 400 into a kick start setup? i just priced out a starter and god forbid mine ever dies. haha. i know the 450 came with electric and optional kick start. so im wondering if theres a way to make the 400 a kick start

Ill check that in a minute. I hear the 450 with the kick start is faster than the electric start version. Might be a way for a couple more hp

That is one wicked build but man time and money and headache to make lol. I think it would be easier just to buy the xr400 motor lmao.

yeah from the looks of it it isnt worth the hassle. i was hoping for a simple conversion that could be bought cheaply. but im slowly learning nothing is cheap for these things. lol

So you want a kicker and a kx kill switch/starter too??

Nope I'd like tconvert to a kick start in the future for the power gains. So I'd toss the electric start stuff but I won't go through the hassle of converting

if u read the thread it says that taking the electric start out and putting the kick start in will have a 38% torque increase. so the eletric start 450r's are the same speed as the kick start but the kick start will get there faster and its cheaper to get a kick start than a electric start brand new. yeah uchi it does sound like a pain in the *** to do!!!

yup i read that. as nice as it would be to get those gains it just really isnt woth the hassle. id just rather put in a lighter flywheel and call it a day

I just finished installing the kicker on my 03, more expensive than I expected, alot more time to mod everything, but once you ride it after what a difference.

Would be cool if someone would make a kit. I think my next mod is gonna be a lighter flywheel.

There was info on doing the flywheel but in doing so you change the way it pulls either low end torgue or top end speed. I believe correct me if im wrong.

It cost me between 5-600, I did all the work myself, (kicker extension, machine flywheel 2 lbs 4 ozs lighter, machine ex right side case for kicker shaft, rear brake lever, pro peg relocation, cut and weld left case cover, rewire entire bike, marry two clutch baskets, and more.

wow 36 oz off the 400ex flywheel? seems like the there wouldnt be enough material to take that much off. I had a full pound taken off my predator flywheel but it weight a full 5 pounds.

The 36 oz includes the starter gear and one way clutch (sprag) being removed. Actually I machined off 18.75 oz off the flywheel (this cannot be done if you are keeping the elctric start probably more like 10-12oz overall)
