I'm buying a hmf sport slip on pipe, and was wondering what jets would you guys recommend putting in the carb. I have a new uni filter on it and will probably run it with no air box lid. I have also heard about a kit hmf makes with a special needle for it, I don't know if I need it or if the stock one will be fine.

I have a 2006 450er with an HMF slip on, with airox lid on I run a 125 main jet, a 55 leak jet, 42 pilot (45 if temp is below 30 deg) 2 1/2 turns out on fuel screw, and a stock needle, if you run an HRC needle (NCVQ) I run the clip 3rd from the bottom. With the airbox lid off I run 165-185 main (start with the 165) 55 leak jet, 45 pilot, 2 1/2 turns out on the fuel screw, stock needle or HRC with clip 3rd from the bottom. The 55 leak jet is the best mod I have done it eliminates bog when stabbing throttle off idle you can get it ftom your local dealer part # 99108-MEB-0550 .......... hope this info helps.

I ordered the 55 leak jet. And your saying my stock needle will be ok with the hrc lid set up with the 165-185 main, 45 pilot, and 55 leak jet. the needle setting is my biggest concern because I heard the 06 has a needle that you can not adjust and I did not want to use if if it was a bad idea. I have never done carb work before an did not want to run it lean and blow my bike up. thanks again, it's nice to know that there are good people to turn to for help when a newb like myself needs some.

Do change the leak jet even if you are not a pro racer everyone wants good performance. Yes I have done carb and engine work before, I did all the motor work on my GNCC race quads and in 2001 I finished 5th overall for the year in 4 stroke stock, I know that was awhile back but I still race, ride, and work on all my stuff. As far as the needle goes I have used the stock needle with both set ups. With the HRC adjustable I always went with the middle posistion with only a slip on and open air box you should be right on, if you want to go one posistion either way to see what it does I dont think that type of testing will hurt tour machine. Jetting is testing.........and definitely use the 55 leak jet. My son went one one in his motos last night and got 2nd in the 85cc open big trophy big smiles....... peace
