so i went for a ride today and about 20 minutes out i started to hear a small thud sound. i thought maybe i had bent the chain guard a little and that the chain was tapping on it. as the ride progressed the noise got worse and more consistent and louder. and i was feeling it through my feet. so i started thinking maybe the tranny was on its way out so we packed it in and started to ride home. then i noticed that my chain was flapping around alot at the front sprocket. so i got hom and check and ive got 3 inches of play, maybe even a bit more. i tightened the chain a few weeks ago to where it was about 1.5 inches, maybe a hair more. since then ive had 2 rides, 3 including todays. maybe a total or 12 hours of riding. the chain is original from 03 from by the looks of it. it doesnt have a master link so im assuming its original. would i be safe pulling a few links out of it or should i just can it? also why would it stretch so much so fast? and does anyone have the measurement for the chain to see how much its stretched? i cant find it in the service manual. thanks for reading

If that chain is truly six years old, it doesn't owe you anything. You'd be well advised to replace it with a new one before your quad tosses the chain. You don't want to end up with big problems that could have been prevented with a little routine maintenance.

How about this...

I know it's a little more, but they seem to be pretty well liked from what I have read. The UPS man still has mine, so I can't speak for their quality, yet.

thats a good price. im willing to pay it. just gotta see how much its gonna be to ship to canada. if its ups theyre probably gonna want like 40 bucks.

i checked the sprocket. its toast. one of the teeth is broken in half and most of them are ground down. oh well. gives me a reason to upgrade and i finally get to put my 13t sprocket on :D gonna see how much shipping is and if its reasonable ill grab it. thanks

I hope not! Otherwise it would cost 286$ for that. I'd rather buy a D.I.D. instead.

haha yeah man. it seems like alot and then you need to buy the master on top of that

i believe for an 2003 u need 92 linjs and a masterlink, since the chain is .55 a link and u need 92 links it would be a total of $50.60 and the master link comes included with the chain at no cost!! This so far is the best chain that i have used granted ive only used it for cout 90 miles but it hasnt stretched at all!! Im not saying that the renthal or did chains are no good- i have owned both but for the price and bling that this chain has it will be the only chain that i use from now on!! i think with the name brand chains ur paying more for the name than anything else!!IMO

I definatly agree you pay more for the name. That price isn't bad at all. Ill have to figure out the shipping to me. I'm gonna need a sprocket for the rear do they offer sprocket chain deals there? I wouldn't mind a yellow chain to match my plastics. Also one more thing what's the 520 represent?

That's great thanks for checking. Ill have to check the price later to ship it to canada. Thanks again for checking

the 520 stands 4 what type of chain it is!! LOL he would only need 92 links and that would only be 50.60 and that is also with the masterlink included!! ther are different types of chains like o-ring, 520 o-ring, 420 chain, 428 chain amd so on and remember u only need 92 links if ur gearing is stock and if u r or already have changed the stock gearing then the stock 92 links length will not work!!

True. But I can always take out links right? How many links would I need with a stock rear and 13 tooth front?

whats the real difference between the o ring non o rign and x ring chains im seeing for sale? is there really an advantage to running one over the other?
