Im looking into the old 80's CJ7 jeeps. I found one on craigslist for 3500 OBO. Its got 33 swampers. I just want to know what you guys think about this rust? Will it be bad to put a lift on that?

If it holds till next summer no problem, I will fix up the body and rust.

I wouldn't purchase anything that had that much rust. You just don't realize what else is under the rust. The condition the Jeep looks like its in, I wouldn't pay more than a $1000 for it. Ask yourself one question...

Do I want to by another mans problem? Trying not to be negative. But if you were my friend, I would tell you the same thing.

Went there today with my dad and mechanic/friend to check that and one more cj7 out. Was not good. Too much rust, frame had already been welded. uneven wear on the tires tool. Im looking at another one. http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/1198231270.html

After talking to our friend, Im really considering building or switching the frame on one I will buy for around $900 http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/1198231270.html and go from there. Unless this frame is nice, I will definitely buy this and work on it. He's ganna help me too, he does this for a hobby.

I wouldn't buy it for 3500 unless is has a built motor in it and I mean like built. We got our 78 cj5 fiberglass body 304 v8 3 speed new soft top got it for 800. Only major thing we did to it was redid all the wiring and changed the axle shaft which took about 2hrs to do.
