its about damn time. they just closed 125 dealerships in ontario!! i have no use for GM anyways. the crapaliers and sunsharts is what ran them into the ground. buy one of those cars and you'll never go back!!

We lost 2 of 3 GM dealerships here in Sudbury over their announcement of cutting their network by 50%.

It was just a matter of time .. they received money from the government , closed plants, closed dealerships, worker took a 50% cut in pay ( they just signed the deal the other day) ... now they're going into the crapper.

I wouldn't quite put the blame for GM on their Cavalier and Sunfire lineup . Anyone buying those cars know they are "throw away" type vehicles . Kind of like when Ford had the Topaz and Escorts. You pay less than $10 000 for them and drive them for 6 years and scrap them.

question is.............. whos next?:scary:

as much as i would like to brag about how my favorite car company is the only big 3 automaker not in bankruptcy, its not needed

my interest is what GM is going to do with pontiac, sabb, hummer, and GMC?

dealership networks dissapear,no parts,is everyone that drives one of these doomed nameplates going to be in S**t creek in a year or two?

Ford won't be too far behind if the government has anything to do with it. Obama wants to Tax American companies for what they sell overseas, so they will pay taxes in america as well as the tax they pay the country that the product is being sold in. Ford and most other American companies won't have a chance.

Saab is owned by ford is it not? and pontiac is already gone....in Canada anyways. they get rid of pontiac but not buick? I've only owned one "Garage Mans Companion" and I won't make that mistake again. The only people keeping GMC alive ride now IMO are the old people who have owned gm their whole lives and they are too stubborn to switch to imports.

might lose some jobs now, but it's better for the long run. Why keep pumping BILLIONS of dollars in a failing company?

the goverment should have just let them go bankrupt in the FIRST place instead of throw billions of our tax money at the raging fire that is burning gm down lol. man that makes me mad.

I would rather have a GM without a warranty than a Ford with.

My next truck will be another used one, so it makes no difference to me. ;)

They will file Bankruptcy, blah blah blah, but don't expect any major changes. GM will still have a 2010 lineup. I'm not sure how all the politics will work, but somehow I bet my tax dollars fund it.

Heres what gets me. Say you loan your neighbor 2000 dollars to pay his truck off cause he's struggling. When he gets back on his feet, he pays you back. The government loans Wall street 700 billion dollars. They get back on their feet, and they don't have to pay it back. There's something wrong there, and that goes to everyone that takes a handout from the government. EVERYONE.

It's not like GM is just going to disapear. When they file chapter11 they have to restructure their company, meaning no more UAW, which is GOOOOOOOOOD.

I cant believe it took this long in this thread for someone to mention 1 of the REAL problems with the big 3. We can only hope the uaw will settle with a realistic contract for its employees. this is what hurt the airline business in my area.

thats not as bad as the credit cards...
people owe them money and cant pay it back so the go down hill, then the goverment gives them money to get back on their feet, then they still want the money from the people who owe them(and those people are paying the taxes that paid for the goverment money), so its like they get paid twice and the poor people owe twice as much not to mention intrest has collected so really they have to pay like 3 times more than in the begining.

Isn't chevy GM too? what happens to them?
Idk whats going to happen but I likes chevy and gmc. now I guess I'll have to change to nissan or toyota.

The majority of money lent is structered to be paid back. It kills me that you people have no clue how your money(tax money and your children and grandchildrens tax money) is being spent.

They can get away with it because most americans are just plain to damn dumb to know any better and to damn lazy to care

False, Ford is still doing well enough over seas to keep them out of this situation for years to come.

Saab was bought out by GM a few years back, prior to then it was a much higher quality company ran by themselves.

+1. European Fords are actually GREAT cars. It's a shame that Europe gets better Fords then America. It is an American company isn't it?

Ford as a company might make it, but unless they fix their North American operations they will go the same way as the other big 2 in NA. GM is/was doing really well in China with Buick, that didn't help them.

Hear hear. Your normal American is too busy watching sports or American Idol to give a damn, or they just don't care to begin with. I'm seriously starting to wonder(with no tinfoil) how much longer this house of cards is going to stay up. Look at how many states have no money and are wanting federal help, look at how much money the federal gov't has already loaned out to entire sections of the economy. The federal gov't doesn't have any money either, they just print more and create more whenever they need it, inflation be damned. Does anyone have any idea how much money the U.S. owes, because I know for sure that it is an astronomicaly high number.

To fix this huge mess, programs and services are going to have to be cut. That means welfare is out, you free loaders go find a job SOMEWHERE and stop leeching off of people. I can't stand free loaders and leechers.

Also, raising taxes aren't the answer. The "rich" already pay their fair share, and the free loaders share too. How fair is that? Work hard at what you do and become successful, just so you can pay for people that are too lazy to even make an effort to find a job? Please.

Sorry about the rant everyone, it just enrages me to see the way things are going. :ermm:
