ok so i got the fmf powerbomb header with the hmf carbon ironman exhaust and the header and even the front silp on of the exhaust is running unbelievably super hot!! I have the 450r carb pushin my 440 and yeah i know the 440s run hot but the header is running so hot i literally lit a cig off of it after i rode it for bout 5 mins and that was even with the spal fan running the whole time, and it was only bout 65 degrees out!! i decided 2 wrap the header to save my leg from burning but even after i wrapped it the header was still sizziling to the touch!! i thought that maybe i was 2 lean so i jumped up 2 a 198K main and a 50K slow. i really wana ride my 440 but im nevvous 2 cuz i dont wana burn it up if there is prob thus makin it so damn hot!! Please someone let me know it there is something wrong or if this is just normal to be running this hot??

that sucks man... I was gonna say its lean but I dont see how. Hopefully someone chimes in.

Do you happen to have a pic of your quad. It sounds sick by the mods in your sig.

sounds like its lean.is it backfiring or popping at all?

no it isnt popping at all i had that prob with my smaller slow in there it would pop on decel so i ovbliously needed a bigger slow, but the bigger slow solved that prob. the only prob im having is when its cold out or if i let it sit 4 more than a day, i am having a hard time starting the thing. yeah i thought that i might of been running really lean 2 thats y i jumped up from a 185 main to a 198, but it is still running super hot and i think that a 198 would make mme run on the fat side but there really isnt any difference between the 185 and the 198 heat wise!! I even tried the 210main and 4 some reason my wheeler seemed to run the best since i hav put the 450r carb on?? isnt that weird cuz the 210 has 2 be running really rich!! I forgot to say that i have 12.5-1 compression but i am running VP racing fuel in it so i dont know what is going onn???

put the stock carb on and tell us what it does.

Stock cam? Are the valves closing properly? That can cause excess heat.

exhaust is suppose to get hot... The header will be hot enough that you can light a cigarette on it. Check your plug and go from there.

Do you have the hotstart sealed up really well on the 450R carb? If not it can leak air which would make you run lean. Also check for air leaks between carb and head - either loose/cracked intake on the carb end or bad seal between intake and head.

Comparing to what most other guys run on their 450R carb setups the jets you are using should make it run rich. That's why I suspect an air leak somewhere.

I suppose you could also be too rich and raw fuel is burning in the header, but I think if you were that rich the engine would run pretty poorly.

yeah i have the hotstart plugged real good with rtv the way ZRPILOT did his and alot of other guys. the intake boot going fron the carb 2 the head is brand new and i have tested both seals on each of the boots by spraying carb cleaner on them while idiling and there was no increase in ideling so its not a air leak. i just dont know i think if i was going through a field in the dry summer that my header is hot enough 2 set the field on fire LOL

Id call the exhaust company and ask them. Also, my buddy has a 450r and his exhaust lights up bright red the same way. The people at the dealership said this is correct. So, maybe yours is the same deal. goodluck

mine and my bro in laws have lit up red usually in the summer time at night you notice it. The exhaust will have a red hugh to it like coals .

if your valve lash is too tight it can make some of the valves run hotter then others, are both headers glowing similar?

Which 450?

are you just sitting still while its getting this hot?

the more that im reading im starting to think that this is normal, and ya it gets super hot when im riding and when im just idling-but it obviously gets hotter when sitting still!!
