Gear for 89 clutch upgrade?

Midway through my engine rebuild, I got a question. I have a vortex clutch basket that I just bought. On the way is the upgrade kit from honda for the 89 upgrade.

The vortex said I need to buy "the small gear" because they removed material from it to add material somewhere else. Does anyone know if this gear comes with the clutch upgrade kit, or do I have to order one separate? Not sure which gear they are talking about.

it doesnt come with the gear.last basket i replaced on a bike, i had to drill the stock rivets off the oem gear and basket and reuse the gear with supplied bolts. hope yours is the same

They're talking about the PRIMARY DRIVE gear.....the Small one on the CRANKSHAFT.

Some Clutch baskets interfere with the outer edge of the gear.

Some people buy the later ('88-'89) gear.....or just grind down the '86-87 one.

When you install your basket you'll see what I mean.

yeah the grind rivets off the big gear is pretty straightforward. I went on servicehonda.com's website and they list two gears, #1 and #2

#1 GEAR, BALANCER DRIVE (37T)

#2 GEAR, PRIMARY DRIVE (23T)

Langbolt I assume the one in question is #2?
