View Full Version : Improving the tribal graphic looks

The tribal looking graphics on the Super Black grew old on me pretty quick.
But I didn't want a bare bike.

Once I was for sure I was going to be changing the graphics, I decided I would volunteer to be the guinea pig on alterations to this scheme.

The one thing I really didn't like was the tribal swirly on the lower rear fenders.

So I said off with them... and it's been looking much better to me.

I also thought the nose graphics were too much.
More specifically, I did not like the lowest section.
So I said off with it... and think it looks much better also...

Now, how did I pull off the above you ask?

Well I'll tell you how...

For starters, no the hair dryer didn't seem to help as much as it took up time.

Next, it is important to understand that these graphics have a clear overlayment on them... and so far I have not been able to get a graphic off without the clear starting to separate from the graphic.

This can be good and bad...

The big trick here is to lightly score the graphic with a razor blade where ever you wish you could just cut it off. I mean LIGHTLY score it... don't get into your plastic.

Do it as if your only goal is to score through the clear overlay.
This should end you up about perfect.

Now, start peeling the graphic up. Eventually the overlay is going to separate. Or it has with me every time. When this happens, stop and start just working on peeling up the overlay. If you did a proper job of scoring and peeling it will come right off perfect and not affect what you want to stay.

Then start working on the graphic. But before you do, check your score line to make sure you are good. The graphic should come up just as perfect as the overlay did... and you are done with the hairy part...

Just remember to start and work to your score line and once you are there, start at one edge or the other of the score.

Now what I have already done looks best to me so far.
But the next step doesn't look bad either

But I am sure maybe someone might consider taking it further, because looks are OPINION.

So for those folks, I am also being the guinea pig because mine are being replaced.
So here is what one step further looks like so you know how it looks before you do it.

Next session I will remove the ones on the tops of the rear fenders so there are only tank graphics and fender edge graphics.

I guess you are a member over at the HQ also then?... I'm thinking that's how you can see the pictures.

Anyways, on the frame... the bike is brand new actually. And I haven't been able to ride much between work, rain, etc...

It's been on mud rides though, and has only been rain washed.... so try leaving it in the rain I guess?.... LOL...

Some folks swear by the simple green... wet, simple green, hose right off. Never used it yet myself.

wow thats weird because ive never realy had this bike all to durty
and my frame already has this brownish tint to it and its only 3 weeks old and it sits in a heated garage

and mtnex did you have time to play with your gearing yet to check on the stalling problem

in my part of the deal i got my new 08 and it has the same problem just not truly as much as my white one i think it was just because we werent used to the 450 cultch coming off of 3 and 400exs

Nah man... I got the test leads to check the EFI system.

The TPS output voltage was low so I raised that up where it should be. Now that I have done that, the slight flutter I had at idle is a full blown miss. I can tell better what's been going on now.

It's got issues dude... coil, fuel pump, injector, some sensor... or some connection/ground.
