I'm looking for a steering damper, and I wanted to know where the best place is to get it! My son likes racing through the woods & I think this would help!

Thanks for any help!

The steering stem collar from a yfz 450 fits perfect, if you can catch one for that bike for sale on ebay, you can save some money. I got two Gibsons off there one for 55, and the other for 80.

So the column for the stabilizer is the same then? Is that for an aftermarket stem or stock one? What did you do about the bracket for the frame?

I'm not sure about stock or aftermarket, they had them listed for a yfz, and they fit great. mount the one end to the stem, run it towards the front bumper through the center of the front frame rails, and mount the other end to the lower cross section ( L-R) behind the bumper. If you need pic's PM me your email addy.

My son's bike has a lot of play left to right. I looked at it, and it looks like the steering stem is 2 pieces. I was hoping to put a steering damper on the top part of the steering stem to help with the play or possibly hook the steering damper where the steering stem fits together to eliminate the play. Or maybe I can tack weld them together & put the damper on it.

Do you guys have any ideas? When we first got the bike, it didn't have this much play!

Thanks

There is a 4mm allen screw in the steering stem right by the joint, tighten that, and it will stop. When you get tired of tightening that little screw, go ahead and tack weld it. It is a whole lot better with the weld....lol

Here is a thread that shows what I did to eliminate the play. Welding it would be a good idea too as long as you could remove it if needed.

For the play in the two piece steering shaft I used locktite and then tightened the allen screw. That worked good but still had some play, I found a 2 piece billet seat post clamp for a bicycle and clamped it down over the joint where the two halves meet and have not had any play since. I have done this on 3 of our bikes and none have come loose. I went this route because I wanted to be able to remove the stem without cutting welds if I needed to.
