check the frame at the cab and the box on the inside for rust holes. i have had 3 toyota trucks and all had frame rust really bad. and 900 tops is as high as i would go.

Im not sure the year range but i know toyota recalled a bunch of frame cause they rusted out too quick and if the frame cant be fixed they give you 110% of blue book value.

If you are refurring to the play in between the gears. Like it doesn't shift smoothly, there are a couple of bushings that are easily replaced that the shifter sits in. Replaceble by removing the shifter inside the cab. It will usually restore the smoothness of the shift lever.

Hey bud, I have a 94 V6 extra cab 4x4 33" BFG etc etc myself (150K mileage)
I also had an issue with sloppy shifting and popping out of 1st and 3rd.
I'm X2 the suggestion above, Martin Crawler has a 25$ updated replacement bushing kit which tightens it up real nice.
The 94 isn't in the recall of bad frame years but it too can rot right behind the cab so check it out. I paid 4K for mine 5 years ago and it has been well worth it. Very dependable and doesn't need much besides routine maintenance :)

Don't think twice about buying that truck, for 1200 I would buy it. The old body style toyota's last FOREVER.
I drove my 92 for 35,000 miles without even changing the oil or filter(of course you had to put a quart in it ever 4 or 5 days, it pretty much changed itself) That truck still runs like a top to this day. The v6 motor is just as reliable as the 4cyl motor.

my best toyota was a 82. it was fully loaded 4x4 with a 6 inch lift and 33's. it had 300k when i sold it. it was a loggers truck and was so beat but it ran like a champ. we called it the black ******* cause it was so ugly but we always went muddin and never got it stuck. i still see it sometimes and its rough but still going. i really miss it but i needed a full size or i would have kept it.
