Def. between the 2 ide say Axis. They have had more champions in the past five years then any companys combined

01-04-2003, 08:15 AM
Im sure they are both amazing but i would go with pep because they are cheaper and i believe they have a shorter wait. They are both the best though

Axis is on about a 2-3 week waiting list b4 u see them at your door, and PEP is about 7-8 months. For the Completely adjustable Axis fronts Dual rates are 1250. Im not sure what PEPs cost. And the dual rate compression adj. back is 775. Now to me ide rather pay the extra money and get my shocks in 2 weeks then save some money and wait a race season. But who am i to say:confused:

The are both great but did ya ever think of throwing Elka in the mix. Pep Axis and Elka are the top names.

They are all equal qualoity.

it depends what you do if you race hard i would go with axis, if you want something better than sock go with the elk's ,

My buddy called up Elk and ask them how would they set up some freestyle shocks. they said all it would need is a stiffer spring,

That wont work.

The Choice is yours

I have heard PEP are better for MX and Axis are better for XC.

Ive rode on both, I like both. I dont like Axis price tag. I dont like PEP wait.

I sent my shock in to have it serviced at axis and have the spring changed out. They sent me back a chipping rusting spring. When I called them, they pretty much told me to shove it.

I just got the elka's, so far, so good.

Yeah I have Elka's and haven't had a single problem with them, but I don't think Elka is up to PEP or Axis yet. They have been doing it for a little over 2 years while PEP and Axis have been doing it for well over 5. I doubt PEP and Axis were #1 the first day they came out, it has taken them years and many pro riders to get their setups down. Elka is getting better all the time. There's no doubt in my mind Elka will be right there in a few years, they just need more Pro riders. I think Elka is a better XC shock also because more guys run them in XC. PEP would be the way to go for LT shocks though, besides the wait. It all takes TIME! You won't go wrong with PEP or Axis!!!!!

i think its halarious that if i would have ordered pep i would have got them about 3 dayz ago... but i've had my elkas for over 5 1/2 months:o

i still dont see why u all don't think elka is good... rumor has it that doug gust is goin to run them this year...

p.s i'm not tryin to start a war here...

01-18-2003, 02:28 PM
5 1/2 months. i'll have my peps in a week and it will be around 2 months total.

Really unless ur a pro rider, race and all that good stuff, then yeah u should get the Axis, pep etc but if ur just a trail rider or, just do local racing and stuff like that, save ur money and just get works. no use spending an extra 500 bucks on something u wont be needing it.

Heck unless you want LT PEP's the smart thing to do would be to buy a nice set on Ebay, and then just send them to Baldwin. There is a lot of nice sets of PEP's on there right now for the 250r, as well as the full Laeger setup.....

I dont know if anyone realizes this but TCS is very similar to Axis, almost identival in performance. Elka is pretty close too I think. I use PEP, and I love them. However, retail price for front ZPS shocks compression and rebound adjustment are $1400. (900 w/o rebound)

I personally think(for woods racing atleast) that out of all the HIGH END shocks like Axis, Elka, PEP, and TCS. That TCS are the worst of them all. I havent talked to anyone at the GNCCs that liked there TCS's Im sure there are ppl that do, but nobody that i have come by yet. So for the money spent, if u cant get Axis, ide go with PEP or Elka b4 TCS. But if u have that cash, ide go with Axis, my personal favorite;)

I have never ridden on PEP so I cant speak for them. But I have ridden on the others. I have TCS on my R and had Axis on my 400. I personally feel the TCS are better setup than my axis. I bought my TCS used and my Axis new, the wait was about a month and a half if I remeber correctly, not bad compared to others, proably the most I would wait. Even though my TCS were bought used, I had them setup for my weight etc. My axis were too. But the axis felt nice, had a nice ride, but seemed to bottom to easy, where as my TCS have a nice rides, very soft and dont bottom hardly at all. I leave my compression on my TCS at halfway and hardly need more. The axis is a high quality shock, there is nothing junk on them but they bottomed to much for me. And for the price I paid for my TCS, they were the best buy, I paid as little for them as people are paying for new works but a better shock by far. What I cant understand is why axis rear is reasonable priced but the fronts are redicolous. I guess its a tossup, do you want to pay to have the shocks now, or later? You have long waiting for one, and high priced for the other. From now on TCS has my money. Fast service- hardly no wait, very resonable price, local dealer can service them.

Didn't you sell those Axis?

400exRacerX
01-20-2003, 02:19 PM
I've never rode elkas before but they seem to be good and gaining a good reputation.

I have both PEP and axis and I Prefer the axis any day over my PEP.

But another thing to think of is Roll Design went from Axis being there suspension provider to elka now.:huh

Do they?? Can you confirm that? Is it because you saw an add in dirtwheels with a lobo frontend with Elkas? From what I understand Roll is merely selling the parts without making you pay for Axis shocks now, you can use which ever shocks you want.

Warriorman- no i didnt sell the axis, Im saving them for my next quad......

Yeah, alot of guys saw a picture of a roll frame with elka shocks and just jumped out and said roll must be switching over. I dont think they are but its not a big deal because you can just buy the aarms seperate and get works shocks if you want to. Also even if they did/or are going to switch that would nessicarly mean elka are better, theres too many other reasons that have nothing to do with performance.
