Can anyone tell me what the size of the big nut is on the rear clutch?(eton viper)...Does anyone sell a wrench or tool that makes it easy to take this thing apart?..Socket for impact gun?..I did get it apart in the past using a huge adjustable wrench and two sets of hands but there has got to be an easier way..

I use a socket and a impact gun. When I get home I'll see what size socket it is.

You need an impact wrench and a set of metric sockets, got ours from Harbor freight, they are pretty cheap.

Yes the size would be good..Biggest I could find locally is 36mm and it is bigger than that..

I may be wrong but I think it's a 12 point 1 1/2 that I use. I'll check when I get home.

Thanks Toby......I really don't want to look in the trailer after three days at Steel City and like a bunch of people were helping throw stuff in there when it started to rain Sunday..........

How About the ZTR clutch tool? That is the best tool for the rear clutch that is made - hands down!
I use the tool and a pair of channel locks.

I clamp the clutch nut in my vice and put a strap wrench around the clutch bell and loosen it. Then I turn the clutch bell by hand putting a lot of downward pressure on it until the nut is off.

To install, I put a piece of cardboard on the floor, sit on my stool while pressing the clutching bell down with my feet. Then I just reach down and thread the nut on. Next, I put it back in the vice and tighten it with the strap wrench. Pretty easy with no special tools.

That is a great idea putting the nut in the vise and turning the bell with a strap..I will give it a try..I did try the 1 1/2 socket and thought it was a little loose fitting?..I guess it fits tight enough not to hurt anything?

The socket I use don't fit perfect but is fine.

Just make darn sure once you loosen the nut, put a lot of pressure down on that clutch bell has you back it off the rest of the way (the torque spring is compressed in there).

I just used the vise and strap method and got it apart thanks...I did measure the nut with a digital vernier caliper and it measured 38mm..I saw a socket that big in a store in my fruitless efforts to find a 1 1/2 inch socket..I will try the 38mm and see if it fits...Thanks again..

a vise on a clutch??? no thanks. The outer nut that holds the bell on is usually a 17mm but the inner nut depends on the clutch you are using..it could be standard or metric and usually around an 1-1/2"..as for the ZTR tool that Logans dad mentioned, I have one I built myself that works much better I can sell for 75 bucks..about half the ZTR tool. Impact wrench is the way to go if you have them apart constantly..which you will if you race a lot

Guys, save yourselves all the headaches. Go to your local Advance Auto, Autozone or whatever you have nearby. Get some of these M10x1.0 pitch nuts. They are 17mm, same size as crank nut and they cost $3.88 for 2. Ive been doing this for a long time, no more headaches.

I believe he is talking about the large flat nut that holds the rear clutch on the rear clutch...
As far as the M10x1 nuts....you can buy those for less than a quarter at most nut and bolt supply places.
