i know that a kill switch just grounds out the system to shut the atv off. btu id like to use a push button kill switch to start my atv as my switch has taken a crap. and its something ill tuck out of the way so itll make the atv less prone to getting stolen. so, any downside to using a kill switch as a starter button? something kind of like this

i would use a kx dirtbike switch. It will work good for you. I am not sure but i think it is normally open so if you wire it in line in a series with the wires that are there already you should be good to go. Steve

heres the info from the last one that was on this from you. lol, It would work as a starter and you can mount it where ever you want to. you could even have a sequence of switches you hit if you wanted to. you could put a toggle in somewhere and then you could make your tether for your regular killswitch the key and be set. you could have all kinds of switches to turn on and off to get it to run. you could be the only one that knows the right sequence. that would be nice. steve

Yeah the last thread didn't fully answer what I was after. Here I just wanna nake sure a kill switch can have power go through it. Thanks for the answers. Looks like I'm gonna grab one. Maybe even one that says kill switch so it really throws people off :D

you will like that switch they are clean. I wish i could get one that small and run my lights with it along with a starter. my cluster would be gone in a hearbeat with the new bars. steve

see if you can get one like that that works as an on off click type switch.

So you are going to use this as a off and on swith? The only thing I see that I wouldn't like is you would still have to turn your key off or run down the battery. also you still need a place for lights

I'm gonna use it as a starter switch and I'm leaving the rest of the assembly in place.

i think a three way switch would work for the lights. i wonder if i could find one that is a rubberized 3way like a killswitch such as a cr one. then you could hook up the dims, brights, and off on one switch. that would be really nice i think. steve

Thought about the snowmobile switch some more and there is no off so it is only a 2 way on/on switch. steve

if i come across a switch that looks decent i may do it just to see. maybe i will get a used stock switch so i have the quick plug. that way i dont have to cut the wires on my good one off and still have a plug to use if it does not work right or something. steve

i am going to get a kx switch next week probably. Anyone have a useless cluster they would give up? I am in the market for one that does not work. then I will get it all wired up after i get all of the stuff. It wont be for a couple of weeks though. It should come out really nice when i am done. Uchi sounds like a good idea to get the 450 carb and change the plug. Get some spares too so you can do a couple of plug chops to see how the jetting is. It sucks waiting for parts to come doesnt it. lol, steve

You guys are all old-school. You gotta get with the times!

I use The Klapper.....ya know, clap-ON, Clap-OFF

The only downside is when my buddy's bike backfires, mine turns off :blah:

(For those of you who never completed high school....that was a joke) :D

Haha yeah I always wondered about watching tv with the clapper. If the clapper commercial came on wold it shut off the unit? Lol.

Steve it sucks a lot. I ride every weekend and now I have to spend time with the gf. I bet she gets me to do things around the house I've been putting off. Haha.

Hey do you by chanve know if the jets from my 400 carb are the same size as the 450? I haven't ordered jets yet. Forgot to. So I was gonna toss in my old ones and see how it ran and hope to get lucky :D

honda400ex2003

the jets i am unsure of but i dont think they will fit since i believe the 450 carb is a different manufacturer. yeah i know about the gf mine has me doing all kinds of stuff too with her. lol, steve

are there any special grounds you have to have when doing this sort of stuff. I have to wire the three way switch right. i have to get the wiring dia. for the switch i have now cause it does not have one with it.

uchi

The 3 way switch will have one input wire and 2 outputs. So you can run one to powe and the other 2 will control seperate sources. Usually the middle wire is the one you wanna run power through. My kill switch arrived on wed but I had to take off for a work thing. Gone till friday. Infact I just got in from dinner with free drinks so I'm on my blackberry drunk typing. Gotta love it. Haha.

nice on the info for the switch. i cant find a junk cluster though. i dont want to buy a new one just to waste it or use mine. i am not sure what to do now since i have not bought a killswitch yet either. i will have about 100 bucks in a freaking switch setup, i dont know if i want to spend that much to see if it will work or not. anyone have any spare parts anyone is willing to get rid of for paid shipping? LOL, i have 23 dollars in this freaking 3 way switch so if i cant get any other stuff cheap i will just take it back. i just dont know what to do. i think it would look nice to get it all done but money is the issue since i am broke. all well i guess ill see, steve

yeah i hear ya there man. money could be put to better use. which is why i dont have a new chain yet. going camping in a couple weeks and id rather put the money into that than into the atv for now. gonna suck having a few weeks off of riding though

thanks but i am looking for a honda one to use the connectors on the end. that way i do not have to cut the one that i have. otherwise the blaster one would work great cause it does not have the starter on it so you can use your own switch. Thanks again for offering, steve
