how does the sparks key work?

i was talking to some friends who i ride with and i mentioned the sparks racing key i bought for my atv, told them where it went and then we got to pondering. how exactly is it bumping timing by 6 degrees? and im guessing its bumping the ignition timing

it reclocks, (re-positions), the flywheel, 6 degrees advanced, in relation to the crankshaft.

Thus, advancing the ignition timing by 6 degrees, compared to the stock position of the flywheel, relative to the crankshaft.
