Cam Chain Adjusting

I need to see if I have a bad tensioner or adjuster because my engine has a knock. What part of the tensioner do I need to turn in to see if it stops? How do I go about doing this?

The cam chain adjuster on the EX engine and most engines for that matter is a self adjuster. To see if it works you need to pop it off and turn the middle screw on it counter clockwise (if I remember right) and push in on the adjuster when you have the screw turned. Then let go of the screw and let go of the adjuster end and see if it springs out. Make sure that you don't install it upside down though!!! I've done this before and ruined a brand new rebuild. My advice is mark which end is up before you take it off.
