yes all the time but you can put some lock tight on it and it will stay tight but it will be hard to get loose the next time

I've got the Meszaros lock nut. It works very well, except that every, oh, say 15 hours of riding it loosens a tiny bit. I loosen the pinch bolts and give it a 1/12 turn to snug it up again. No biggie really.

What is the duct tape trick anyway???

Did you install it with a wrench? Only hand tight is the correct way.

the duct tape trick is: just tighten it, and then wrap it in duct tape. the glue in duct tape is REALLY strong. i have never had a problem with mine.

Wanna know what really stinks, when you cant fit the cotter pin through the nut to keep it from fallin off and you ride to a friends house to get a spare pin and hopefully fix the problem, but he rigs it up so that when we get 24 miles down the trail i realize that both the wheel spacer (axle not extended) and the crown nut had fallen off. I get bout half a mile and the wheel falls off.

Make sure that you always have the nut secured on because in my opinion, i prefer the nut loose but secured, rather than off.

I prefer the Lonestar locknut. If I have to run a stock one I wrap it with electrical tape to keep it from vibrating loose.
