took my 250 out for a little today and i let it warm up for a couple minutes and then i went to ride it and it wouldnt clear out in first through third gear then in fourth it was fine what could cause this main jet or pilot jet

It sounds like your crankcase loaded up with fuel while you were warming it up. Make sure you blip the throttle a little while it's warming up. Tuning guide:

i do that and it still sputters the whole time i ride except 4 through 6 gear

Have you changed anything? Mine was doing the same thing after my rebuild. I had a nightmare, but after playing with it I finally got it right. Turns out I had to change all the settings in my carb. I believe the main thing was my needle. I'm pretty much at sea level and I have a 42 pilot, DGK needle 2nd clip from the top, and a 170 main.....36mm PWK keihin.

I would check your clip and maybe move it up or down.

after warm up and running through the gears it clears up. right? or does it continue to have that same issue after it sets a few and the process has to be repeated?

when it warms up it will clear up in 3 sometimes second but hardly ever in first

but do you have to repeat the process of having to run it through the gears to clear it out after its good and warm, after its set a few minutes?

try going through the carb again and making doubley sure that the float is set correctly and that the float needle is shutting the fuel off and giving that a whirl. then try en fine tune the jetting. :cool:
