a while back last summer i tried to adjust my valves. it didn't go very well because the crank would not stay in the right spot indictaed on the flywheel, so the adjustment was a little off. it still runs good, but the idle is not that great. it will kind of skip around if you know what i mean. i did my 300's valves and had no problem with this. i want to do it over to make sure it is right and so it doesn't have the messed up idle and doesn't overheat. i would almost get to the spot on the flywheel and then it would turn really fast past the mark. i tried by taking the spark plug out, but the problem did not go away. i had someone try and hold it for like 3-4 minutes while i did the adjustment, but that did not work out. any ideas would be appreciated.

your idle issue sounds more like a jetting issue than anything else. My 250 had a bit of a lope to it until I adjusted the fuel screw a bit. Now it's a consistent steady idle, no lope.
