I was playing with the carb on the 400 and got tired tired of not being able to adjust the fuel screw, being you need that D shaped bit. So I pulled the carb off and slotted the screw so I could get a flat head screwdriver that I cut down to about two inches on it. Earlier today I took it another step further and soldered a brass battery termanal screw onto the end of the fuel screw. What do you think? With the engine hot I can still get my fingers in there and adjust it by hand. :)

I'm assuming the stock 38 pilot jet is on the small side? Any more then 2 turns out there is no change.

Fuel screw installed. Having the stock idle adjustment out of there does makes for some more room.

Didn't relocate the idle adjuster. The cable twisted inside the rubber sheething the first week I had her so i just clipped it off. I carry a small set of need nose pliers in the bikes tool box to adjust it.

Did the same thing with mine, then ended up getting a flexxed screw from R&D.

That's like the stock idle adjuster right? I'm weary about that set up now, after the stock one twisted on me. Braided steel line ran through a rubber sleeve, just doesn't have the durability as a bolt head. :)

Yeah, that's always a threat, but so far it has worked great. If it does break I can always put my old screw with the brass knob soldered on it. LOL

this is a great idea. is the fuel screw on the 450r carb the same as the 400 ex carb? ive got my 450r carb sitting taken apart and id gladly do this to its screw and then swap it in.

that screw int he link is a pretty good idea too but thing is a little expensive for what youre getting. im sure theres a cheaper way around it

^^^ if u have the fcr carb you have to punch out the hole and install a fcr fuel screw.

i really like this idea too, if i get the time to remove my carb i will certainly do this

I agree its good if you do lots of riding in changeing altitudes and you need to constantly adjust it. I'd just like the ability to change it a couple times per year for weather changes. But the thing is really cool no doubt there :)

It really helped out alot when I first put it on, cause I was playing with the jetting alot. Now I don't touch unless like what you said, the weather changes.

The biggest advantage for me would be if it fit both of my carbs. I'd rather have something like this than have to keep pulling the 450 carb to adjust the screw

Not really sure about that, but I'm guessing it would.
