i just went to the honda shop to look at pistons and i said i wanted a 416.they said if i do that the walls will be to thin and itll run too hot and ill have problems down the road.they said they could try to bore it out or they could send it to je and it would probably cost 200 to bore.but they recommend 1mm over instead of 2.is there much difference in power between the two?

anyone else have problems boring to a 416?

thanks
rob

a 416 will be fine. it will probably run a hair warmer, but nothing to worry about. if you went wit a 426 thats when you would have to worry about the sleeve being too thin

agreed. an 87mm bore will be fine as long as you maintain it. also, power comes from compression more than bore size.

I would find a machine shop local to you or send it out if all else fails. $200 for a bore is insane!!!! I would never take my stuff to the stealership for service especially when it comes to something like that! There are tons of people on here running the 416. Unless you really need the extra power the 406 they speak of isnt too bad either and if anything did happen then you could go to the 416 just for thought!

torque usually comes from displacement and usually a longer rod length/stroke. boring them out doesnt really do much. like mentioned its things like compression, cam choice, timing, better intake, por work, exhaust changes that really make the difference. The extra displacement helps but by getting more air/fuel in there but you will see the biggest differene in other mods. If you need to bore it out IMO go 406 just because you have room for a 416 in the future and if you wanted to risk a 426 with it.

thanks guys.and matt14c the bore for 200 is if they had to send it in to je cause thats what it says is recommended in the parts book.they said they could try to bore it there but they thought it would be to thin and they said theyd bore it for only 35 bucks and they said they sell me a je piston for only 130 bucks and i cant even find any on ebay for cheaper than that

Keep stock bore and just place a higher compresion piston with the thin gastkets places the piston closer to top of the head and creates more power.

buy the 406 piston/rings of your choice (I suggest 11:1)
then take the piston and jug to the machine shop so they can bore to match

prob. around the 35 bucks you stated

you can build torque a few different ways
cc's and compression both raise torque numbers

my 416 is fine and pinches your cheeks when u throttle it-- find a machine shop to do it for like 30 bucks a bore--honda shop rip u off anyways...
