stock and stock, the 450 would own the 250, but if the 250r has a 38 stryker, reeds, pipe and high comp piston, the 450 is gone.

plus the 250r costs about half the money to keep up as the 450.

I have both. The 450 is easier to ride, can be in the same gear for almost the whole track, most say 3rd gear and some blimping in 4th. The 250r, going between 2nd - 4th nearly almost every corner. Add a slipper or auto clutch and the 450 becomes easier to ride. Yes, a well modded 250r can keep up with a 450. Sadly.....in the end after 10 laps of shifting 2nd-4th, clutching and a narrower powerband. The 450 comes out the winner, mostly due to rider fatique.

My 250r has a pretty wide powerband and lots of power, ~200 psi compression and 14/38 gearing. I'm going through the gearbox often and it will wear you down. My 450(its a crf motor), 13/38 gearing and auto-clutch. Stick it in 3rd gear and go, shfting to 4th and some tracks even 5th. Pulls almost all turns on 3rd and clears bigger jumps in hi-3rd and 4th. Even when I didn't have the auto-clutch, it was 3rd-4th for most places.

To the average rider, the 450 is less tiring and more usable power. Put a pro on pro-modded 250r and its just like the 4 stroke, who gets in and out of the corner fastest, doubles, rhythm sections and does it most smoothly...to sum it up...rider skill and bike setup.

Deathman.... well said....

Id have to agree with everything he mentioned. my hybrid has the yz450 engine in it, which is only a 4 speed, which requires even less shifting.

But you still have to love the feel of the 2 stroke hitting that powerband

Its all rider preference. It's the same as asking if your girlfriend is better than mine.

^^^^thats true....but, a 4-poke does not have that initial hit like a 2-stroke does. The powerband in a 4-poke is more all throughout the RPM range. Me personally I like that "grab a hold of the handlebars and hang on" hit.

Do us a favor and ask your question in the 400ex forum. This has been covered many times on here.

I have no sympathy for guys who ask these questions over and over because they're not smart enough to use the search function.

Change your gearing around, Ive never shifted more than 3rd-4th while racing. Doesnt ever bother me.

The 250r is lighter and flies better than the 450 too, and is easier to keep the front end down, but still a wheelie king if you set back and pop the clutch. The stock 450r will eventually have cam problems i have heard.

You dont buy a 250r to go fast, even though they will, you buy a 250r because your a 2-stroke junkie.
