looking at one but hesitated

I went to a dealer to ride a 07' 525 irs. the thing is I have a 400ex that I have modded pretty well and I love the idea of the Outlaw. Anyway I tried to ride this one and it had a hesitation when hitting the throttle. Is this the way the power comes on with a KTM? Are they pretty "corked up" stock? I have to say I was not really that impressed with the power from a 525??? I think my 408ex pulls harder and faster but maybe this floor model was bad? The way the power came on late made it hard to ride. Is this normal? Do I have to "learn" the bike? It also was backfiring on decel? Too lean?

The hesitation and popping on decel are common with the 525, but can be easily fixed.

The hesitation can be fixed with a couple of crab mods. The popping on decel is from where the header joins the flange at the head. There is a leak there. This is also an easy fix with some high temp sealer.

Once you do the basic mods, filter/intake - exhaust - jetting you will pleased at the gains.

If this is what you want, and for that price I wouldnt hesitate.

By all means....don't judge the Outlaw by the one you rode and it's stock nature. I felt the same way and have only jetted and put a slip on exhaust on it. WAY different!!! You WILL be pleased! Guaranteed!

They come from the factory VERY lean and pretty corked up.

That pretty much applies to any stock quad 400cc's and up though. :D
