hey all, i am trying to figure out what i should do next. I ride a stock yfz 450 with a pipe and we got my girl a 400ex to ride with me on. Well she loved it and actually outgrew the 400 and money is tight and cant afford a 450 so we threw on a super trapp pipe, stage 2 cams, an rpm ported head and a 440 top end with 11.1 piston and we bored out the carb. Well all that was great for top end but totally killed bottum. THere is nothing on bottum or mid range. we took the bored carb off and that helped alot but we are still looking for more. Basically we want 450 power out of a 400. Any ideas? Should i take out the cams and throw in a stroker crank? Thanks alot!

you could try out the stage 1 hotcam instead of the 2. i think it would help to lower the power to the bottom where you want it. then you could put the carb back on and gain some top back from the loss of the stage 1. that may be a better cheaper way to start off instead of going to a 460 right away. steve

maybe even a pipe that makes better power lower in the rpms. the super trapp is a better top end pipe i think, though i am not positive. steve

supertrapp pipe with the adjustable disks? How man are you running?, seems like all your recent add-ons are geared to be more top end happy.

The super trapp pipe i have doesnt have any rings on it. I think its the tuneable one but i just thought it was mostly for the sound and not the performance. Also what gear ratio do you guys run?

put a 450r card on it, it really helped my 44o come alive. i also have a stage 2 cam, and try different gearing ratios that will help out 2!!

If is a regular 440 big bore throw that POS in the garbage get a 440 stroker. With the stroker you will be fine with the stage 2 cam and look out she might be pulling past you unless your YFZ is done up. 440 big bores are pretty sluggish if you ask me I can hang with my stock bore. Stroke the motor and its a whole different animal. Wish i had a video 3 440 big bores vs 1 440 stroker. We all switched off and everyone had a smile ear to ear riding the stroker because you could let the others get a head start and just walk right past with the front wheels off the ground. I'm just not a fan of stage 2 cams unless you have a stroker motor I like a strong bottom end and event he stage 1 will give you a nice gain up top from stock. mid range is killer on the stage 1 and I love a good mid range hit.

put a 4 mil stroke with the 440 you have like you were saying and make some real power. a 440 is not a bad motor if it is done right. the 4 mil will change everything and give you more torque to go along with with the topend. they are reliable when done right. if you decide to get a stroker, put a web cam in it. you will be very satisfied with the power.

the selling point is performance vs sound. However the low end grunt will have something to do with the amount of backpressure. If youre running it wide open it will work better up top but lack the down low hit.
