1999 camaro ss or 2000 camaro lt1?

both have 73k on them the lt1 is just 900 dollars more than the ss, is the ss faster than the lt1 because i read up on it and i heard that the ss is faster.

f the SS is faster and all around better not to mention cheaper than get it. Same mileage just a different year so I consider them equal.

If it's a 2000 it's not an LT1, it's an LS1. They are both the same car but the SS has a dif. hood and a different intake. The SS has I think 20 more hp than the Z28. All camaro's from '98 - '02 are LS1 with the exception of a WS6

neither of those years came with an LT1, they are LS1 cars. Unless someone swapped it in, it shouldnt have an LT1. but anyway, they should be equally comparable. for some background info the 93-97 fbody cars came with an lt1. 98+ came with the ls1's which is the better of the two engines. LT1's had their fair share of problems so i suggest avoiding them. the optispark ignition (distributor) was mounted under the waterpump which was know for leaking which resulted in the optispark going bad prematurely and it was a costly and tough fix. Ls1's are much better designed. Plenty of power in both. I had a 94 firebird LT1 6speed with a few bolt ons ( longtube headers, cold air intake, ram powergrip clutch, 1.6 roller rockers, ect) and it was fast as all hell. My roommate has a 2002 z28 camaro with an ls1 6speed with a borla exhaust and slp intake and both cars were very good competition for eachother. Plenty of scary power so you should never be dissapointed. Goodluck and feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions I know a few things bout these cars lol.

I would take the SS.. I haven't seen a lot of them around.. Beside's I like the way they look better with the hood and the stripe down the center of the car..

ya its an LS1. and the 2000 is problly a z28, the ss will have a little more power. they had like 20 more or so. i have an LT1 firebird and the thing hauls balls. an LS1 is about 40 hp more, so either one will be a blast to drive;)

The WS6 had the LS1 in it too.


I had a head/cam, A4 95 Z28 lt1 that ran low 12's all day long. I also had a 2000 TA with head/cam M6 that ran high 11's with a broken tranny. Personally, I would stick with a LS1 car over a lt1 car any day. The plugs on the LT1 are a complete PITA.

I wouldn't get anything with an LT1 in it...when I would have the option of the LS1.

i dont see why you guys are hating on the LT so much. mine is reliable and friggin hauls. i mean of course, the ls1's are more powerful and newer design. but u guys are making the lt1 to sound like a pos, not true

If you were to do comparable mods to both cars, the LS will get more bang for the buck then the LT. I've had both and the easability of working on the LS1 is 10 times easier than the LT1. Plugs are easy to change, your air filter doesn't stick down below the frame of the car, and you don't have to worry about the VTS signal causing your car not to 2-3 shift when you are at the track in an A4. Things you have to consider with a ls1: better mpg, more power, and chicks dig them.... :D

Oh dont get me wrong i loved my LT1 but damn that thing was tough to work on. headers took forever to put in and changing plugs deffinitely was a hassle especially with the Long Tube headers. When it ran good it was a rocketship but seemed like i was trying to work all the bugs out of it most of the time. Optispark is junk no matter how you look at it anyway. Chicks deffinitely do dig the fbody cars, LT1 or LS1. heres a few pics of mine. Gotta love headers to side exhaust

ha very nice mine was also a 94! I had 18x9 z06 wheels on mine. i miss it. Thinking about getting a ws6 at some point too.
