ive been noticing lately that im having a hard time getting into lower gears. today more so than before after our 6 hours of hard riding. i find that it feels like im already in 1st but ill bein second or third. and it wont click down unless i either roll it forward a little or who knows. it just seems like its getting stuck sometimes. so am im gonna be in for a new gear set soon or will a fluid change solve my issues?

i think the shift forks may be getting wore out a bit or the gears are getting wore out. Most likely it is the shift forks though. Just my thoughts on the subject. i am not real sure. steve

****ty deal. Any idea how much replacing the forks and gears is worth?

really i have no idea, maybe a couple of hundy. i have actually thought agout loking into what i all need to do all of the shift forks and such. Mine was getting a bit hard for a while but seems to be doing alright again. Mine seems to straighten them out after a while. I will look right now and see what it all needs to do the shift forks. I know you have to split the case, and i dont really want to do that yet. steve

looking at the schematic it looks to be about 450 for the whole inside with the 3 shift forks and the shafts along with a cam for the one shaft.

this may work you can check this out. this is the one i looked at. The transmission is not the prob i dont think. It sucks to spend that on it. you could probably get a way with about 200 if you dont need shafts and just need the shift forks and a few other things. The forks are about 60 a peice. I have no idea what would have to be replaced. steve

****ty deal. 450 can put some extra hp through the motor. i guess ill have to rip it out over the winter and have the local bike shope take a look at it for me. thanks for looking into things.

that is if everything in there goes without the trans failing too. i just checked out the shift cam schematic on the link at the top. I just did the major parts in a rough guesstimate i did the the gearshift drums and gearshift spindle, along with the 3 shift forks that are listed on the parts list. steve

true enough. might almost be cheaper to find a wrecked 400, take what i need and part the rest :D

will i be able to seperate the tranny from the motor or is it all together as one piece? also does any other honda tranny fit in there incase i decide to look for one

ebay seems to be the best bet for something like this

That may just be the best thing to do. just replace the whole kitten caboodle. do the trans and the shift stuff at the same time. lol, steve
