Hi,

I've been a Honda fanboy for as long as I was born. When I was younger I had a 90EX which I liked pretty much. When I turned 13 my parents bought me a brand new 2006 250EX (In 2005) as a birthday present. Here's a pic of it as of today:

Now I'm 17 and this quad, even tho it's still hella fun, is way too small to haul my 200 pounds around a track. I ride it on MX track regularly and I find it's lacking power so badly!

I want to upgrade to a 400EX. They are dirt cheap and dont require too much maintenance and money to kick some asses. I just want to know something: Apart from the oil pumping engine, is there any weak point on them?

Is the frame / pegs good for a heavy rider like me? I'm big but it doesnt refrain me from gapping 40' jumps so if you tell me the pegs are gonna bend from abuse then I'll be scared. :D

you should be fine, i have never really heard of anyone having any breakages but there are a couple of good gussets locations if you want to get involved in it. i am 190 lbs and hit some 40's with no probs even with a stock susp. otherwise some mods can make it really nice. it will be very capable on the track for you. I would get a 450r susp, get it revalved, with a nice 416 with a stage 2 hotcam and 11:1 with a nice exhaust. you will have some thrills for a long time. Good luck, steve

why not just get a 450r? you will have the 400 for a couple weeks and then you will want to go faster. shoot i went from a 250 to a 400; and from that to my 450. i dumped around 3000 dollars into my 400 in order to make it mx ready. for the 3500 i paid for the 400 and the 3000 i put into it i could have bought a bad *** built 450. just letting you know.

The thing is, I dont got the time or patience to maintain a capricious 450. Changing oil every 5 hours and adjusting valves just as often is not exactly what I expect to be doing with my quad.

Plus even if the 450R is 'MX Ready', who keeps a bike stoc anyways. People always change the tables and suspension for better components so at this point of modifications the 400EX can be as good as the 450R, just with less power.

Just my 0.02$ :)

Sheet!!! That's an awesome EX! Too bad I like like 4000 km from you I'd tak that right off! :(

I think though that I'll look into a stock 2001 or something like that. 2000$ for the quad then I put 6000$ of stuff on it. :D
