I have a 87 250x with a chunk of the case gone by the primary sprocket....which appears to be pretty common on these quads. I was thinking of taking the case off and preping it really well for a JB weld patch job, but then I remembered using a kit to seal up a crack in a gas tank. This kit had a JB weld type goo and also some fiberglass cloth. When it dried that sucker was tough. I'm just wondering if maybe this wouldn't work better on a hole in the case instead of just filling it in with pure JB weld.

Any ideas? I can't afford to go have it welded up.....I am maxxed out on mods to this quad and need some DIY advice.

That will work i have done it before but you will have to get it as clean as you can and have the area being fixed oil free or it will not work.
