I was doing some reading using the search on this topic and saw that people were saying you could use the 450R swingarm to replace the 400EX, but that you couldn't use things such as the 450R brake stay with the 400EX caliper. My question is, can you use just the 450R swingarm and bolt up ALL the 400EX parts; brake stay, caliper, bearing carrier, suspension.

Looking for solid answers, not "i think". Have the chance to get a 06+ 450R swingarm for cheap, and looking to put a twin row lonestar 400EX carrier in it, along with all my 400EX parts.

from my understanding the 400 carrier is not long enough. They increased the width by about 1/8 of an inch on the 450's so when you go to put the brake stay and the c-clip on the clip will not fit into the groove.

If that makes any sense...

As far as i have read you have to use the 450 stuff to do the swap. the brake mounts and the carrier are different so they do not line up. steve

yes, all of the 400ex stuff will fit in an 06 450r swingarm. the ex carrier is a little wider maybe 1/8 but will work fine if centered and tightend properly.. i am using the 06 swingarm in my ex with all the ex stuff excluding the dogbone. i had to use the 450 d/l linkage and ex shock to make the seat height right.

Are 400 and 450 axles the same? As in, can a 400 axle fit in a 450 bearing carrier?

The r's axle is slightly smaller in diameter to run and r axle you need an r carrier.

what about skid plates?

can a 450r skid plate fit on a 400ex swing arm?

I doubt it. i think it is a different style and different mounts. i guess you could find out by looking at some part numbers for a skid plate. i am not sure if that would work but it is a way to check. steve

Yes it will. My brothers AC swingarm skid for his 04 450r will bolt right up to my swingarm. all you have to do is use a chain file to make the bolt hole longer on the front of the skid. I got bored one day and found this out

ummmm the bearings are the same in a 450r and 400ex carriers! I know cause i have used the kits for my 400ex on my 450r, the bearings have the same part numbers in the pivot works kits and the seals are the same numbers also. the only difference is the 450r takes three bearings and a 400ex takes two on stock carriers.

I have a dual row on my 400 so i just go to the parts house and get a koyo extra bearing when i used my 450r bearing kit.

just for your info.
