adjustable link

My brother and I both have 400ex's. He has an adjustable link on his so it rides a few inches lower at the seat. Does this compromise suspension travel? Is it possible that the link being shorter would make the shock bind? I haven’t really ridden his much but it feels like the shock doesn’t have full travel and that it’s like sticky, like it’s binding or something. Like I said I haven’t really ridden it much and it doesn’t seem to give him any problems. I just wondered if anyone has seen anything like this.
