HP wise I think you'd still be behind a few. These newer 450 engines from all the big companys are amazing compared to our low tech 400ex engines. If your talking an actual race like a short drag race(less than 150ft), trails, or something technical. I agree it's mostly the rider. As long as your good at hitting your gears perfect, and nailing the take offs, you should beat or hang right with a 450 till you hit 4th or 5th gear. That's how it goes on my stock bike. I just make sure a drag race is over about then.:D

Does anyone know how much power GT Thunder's 450 stroker kit gives the ol' 400. Is it worth the 1500 bucks?

I was actually going to send my motor to them. I was so interested in that 452 stroker kit it wasn't even funny. One of my favorite packages. But I emailed GT Thunder and he said they no longer sell that package.. Guess not enough people get their ex's built anymore.

Eh dont try to beat the motor beat the rider. Theres plenty of people with quads built that couldnt even push a stock 250ex to its limits. Last time I was out riding I see this sik looking YFZ Elka all around looks like all brand new parts and what not. The guy couldnt ride for crap with all of that. If you want to beat a 450 stroking it motor is the only way to go. 440 stroker will just whoop on a 440 big bore all day and I know from experience switched several riders on and off the stroker motor raped.

My setup is nearly dead even with a HRC equipped 07R w/a 12tooth, out of the hole and top end. This was on the sand, both machines had the same paddles.

A 400ex can be made to run hard, it takes some money to do it though.

Drag racing flat out you cant beat a 450 unless the person driving is scared of it.

Think of it anything they do they can do and it will then be faster yet again if ya want a 450 save the money and buy one you wont be disapointed there a very good quad.

As far as doing all that if your gonna do a 440 kit do a stage 2 cam if your going with a big stroker kit I would do a stage 3 cam.

Just beat them in the ride my 400ex is stock motor and I keep up with my bro in law in the woods and he has a HRC kit.

On the drag I beat him off the line by 3 or 4 bike lengths and finish he beats me by 2 I mean come on 2 bikes!! How often am I gonna drag? never how often will I hit 5 gear in the woods never lmao.

416 with 4mm stroker = 440 stroker. shoot a 20 shot of NOS and youll hand any 3 mod 450 his tail pipe.

when my 400 was running, i raced my friend and he had a stock 450r and i could keep up with him in a drag race till i hit 4th then he would just pull away, i could keep up with him in the trails and he was a really good rider
